I got my nose pierced today and it got me thinking when my mom found out thanks to my brother the snitch. She asked me why I do these things. I have 9 tattoos, 2 lip rings and stretched ears on top of the new nose ring,with plans for more. I thought about it for a second and I told her that this disease makes me feel so ugly that I need to do something that makes me feel good about myself and makes me feel pretty and damn it I think they're pretty. That was the end of the conversation. She knows how I feel about myself with this disease and anything to make me feel better is fine by her. I'm not a hooligan or a delinquent or a drug dealer. I have a job and I'm a self sufficient contributing member of society.

I do my makeup and my hair everyday because it helps me feel better about myself. So I was wondering what you guys do to make yourselves feel pretty. Guys too...

I do some of the same to feel prettier. Put on makeup...do my hair...paint my toes...wear my favorite jewelry...wear cute dark colored clothes. Rock pretty shoes even if I am bumming it. Listening to my favorite music helps lift my mood which sometimes makes me feel prettier...so does driving and some random dude who obviously has no clue I have HS or a man, smiles or tries to flirt with me...that's a cheap thrill but you know we all like to feel attractive.

I agree with Tangerinebear....Good for you for getting the piercing and doing whatever makes you feel better and for telling your Mom straight up this is how I cope with HS.

That's the same thing I do to feel pretty :) I get a new tattoo and people will notice it, tell me how great it it, and I feel good. Go get your pierce on!

maybe not feel pretty but what makes me feel good is getting decked out in jeans and a nice shirt and wearing my hair spikey with hair gel and putting on some smell good makes me feel attractive to the ladies....makes me feel like a stud even though i'm usually too shy to talk to a girl cause of the HS... I'm not a bad looking guy i think I just am so disgusted and down on myself all the time nothing ever gets started with anyone.

i think you're beautiful from your pic. HS or not you are a good looking woman!!

I agree - whatever we can do to make ourselves feel better. I always try to at least look good even if I dont feel good and, even though my breasts are pretty scarred now, I have great clevage (SP?) so once in awhile I put those girls out there. What you cant see, you dont know about, ya know?

I look at it this way. If I can look at my skin and see something I like then that'll make me feel a little better about myself. That's why I always try to look my best and that's why I have all the tattoos.

You look good, you feel good and of course it always helps when the guy you see everyday that you have a giant crush on lets you know you look good :)

I love makeup and am trying to get into the habit of wearing it every day. I also love cute colorful clothes and try to at least wear a cute blouse every day, though sometimes finding cute tops gets frustrating because I don't like showing my armpit scars. Also, I do my nails every week. I am a nail polish fiend, lol. Nice-smelling lotions also help me feel better.

OMG another nail polish fiend! I just did little tuxedos on mine. You can totally wear whatever top you want. You just need to invest in some really nice cardigans to go with them

Congratulations on the nose piercing. I know just what you mean about how this disease makes you feel and I agree it is very important that we do treat ourselves and do anything we can to feel brighter about ourselves. At the moment I am on the hunt for a new face product to help cover the HS and scars from HS on my face. I had read that mineral makeup was useful to some HS suffers so I tried a brand a couple of days ago and what a mess it left me with a very bad reaction, burning and itching and redness. My search continues haha
