How did it go? Is there treatment for that area of the body?

Well..I had surgery on my groin. It was just general surgery, not wide excision. So it was about 35 minutes tops. I was put under twilight anesthesia, which was a godsend. Didn't feel a thing. Had some stitches but not all. Part of it was left open to heal on it's own, although it took a Year to do so. It stayed closed for 4 months, and then opened back up again. Been following that pattern for about 5 years now. I do wish you the best of luck, and hope yours lasts longer than mine.

well, it was kind of disappointing. The appointment that is. He didn't have much experience with it and that makes me nervous. I didn't know what to ask and he was vague for all of the questions I did ask! They just called me today to tell me how much it would cost (I have no insurance). It's expensive. Kinda funny how they were quick to researchthe price, but didn't bother to look up information on the HS! Did anyone have a problem with your insurance to approve your surgery? How did you get the problem with your insurance resolved? My doctor submitted a referral it was approved and changed several times to different doctors. At the end my medical group sent me to the dermatologist. Now my doctor said its cosmetic because surgery is not for infections. I finally got a denial letter from my medical group and it said something totally different. It said based on the dermatologist notes it did not have any recommendations of surgery. The dermatologist I saw had no clue about HS. The dermatologist recommended I go back to see another doctor that had more experience with HS. I went back and saw the other doctor he said its not cosmetic surgery and a referral will be submitted. My medical group does not have a Plastic Surgeon that specializes in HS, so the dermatologist can not submit a referral. In the mean time I submitted an appeal. I am nervous if my insurance will cover surgery. I have HS for 10 years now. I know my situation is very confusing. Any advice?

I don't know what to say except if you are not sure of this doctor, then look elsewhere. I do not know where you are, but be careful on who you choose to do your surgery. Not having insurance really sucks. I am so sorry. I have insurance but cannot afford to use it, that's a laugh. Please keep us posted. I hope the best for you.

They told me the surgery would cost around $2600-$2800. And that is with a 50% discount from the surgical center. I guess its a good deal, but when you have no money even a good deal is too expensive. I Live in California and the county I live in has programs for people without insurance. I am thinking of applying for it, but I am not sure if it would cover the surgery for the same reasons that Pattyv4286 said. Oh well, I can only try! I am not sure about going to yet another doctor, to be told that they don't know anything about it. We'll see. I have to save up for the visit (they are like $100 to $185 a pop!) I have learned more online about HS than the Doctors have told me! Oh well! One day at a time!

Actually....I think I am too chicken for the surgery........Freaking out right now. SOrry to be such a downer.
