I have been suffering from HS since I was around 15, when I had my son, which I believe triggered my HS, earlier then expected anyway. So When I had my son, oh about 8 years ago I had a very huge, huge cyst on my labia, so massive I couldn't sit properly, and it hurt like a b*(&* to pee. I don't think what I had done would be considered "surgery" even though they did slice it open with a scalpel, to be honest I don't even remember what happen after I believe they just let it drain out and then heal naturally. I do remember the blood and puss though, the white sheet below my bottom looked like someone had stabbed me a couple times there was so much blood. So I guess my real question is, I have had constant overlapping cysts, I doubt I have ever had completely "clear" days at all. If its not 2 on my underarm, 1 on my butt cheek AND 1 on my labia then its MORE all over, kind of deal. My cysts are normally about the size of a regular m&m, sometimes getting larger to the m&m's with peanuts, around my genitals though they can get to about the size of a rounded off mini "Halloween" mars bar (sorry for all the chocolate references but I am trying to stay optimistic) rarely do they interrupt my lifestyle and mobile movements but if they do a long evening of hot compresses usually persuade whichever bugger is being persistent to open n drain that night or next morning. Should I be going to the doctors and having them examine me and "take care" of these problems? I am scared, nervous and I suppose I never felt the "dire" need for help. But I don't want to be throwing my well being and health down the drain over a pitiful ego. Is it necessary to have doctors drain me and keep an eye on me or is this just a mild case that I am handling ok? I keep myself clean and shower twice a day. I always use clean compresses. I dont want to skip out on the doctor when that is the right thing for me but I also don't want to go there if I really don't have that big a problem. TIPS PLEASE?

Sounds like you and me are in the same boat. I went to the Dr. and was diagnosed with HS but treat all my boils my self. One time I had one on my butt and it hurt so bad I got antibiotics from her, but other than that I have treated myself. I too am scared. I'm not necessarily sure theres anything they can do other than drain them, so I don't go. Every person is different though, and if it gets to the point where it effects my daily life I will seek help.

Okay thank you, I think I will continue doing what I'm doing. I went to the dermatologist a few times, the first time they offered me a oral medication that they said would most definitely turn my nails and teeth grey but would stop and prevent future break outs but I refused. Then the second time they just asked me to strip and sit in the stir-ups and all she said was "yup it looks like you have HS".. no real recommendations or anything. I currently use phisohex on my face and chest for acne, recently found out it can be used on HS spots as well so I will see if that helps improve. :)
