In all my years with HS,the best thing i found to do is keep gauze on it to catch the drainage.Do that during the day when your most active,then take off any bandages & clothing around/on the area at night when least active...letting it breath is essential to healing!!!

Keep it dry if it's wet, and keep STERILE gauze around it. My mom's a doctor -- a huge blessing because of HS -- and she knows just what to do.

Treat it like you would any open wound -- keep it cool and dry so bacteria don't grow, and keep it as sterile as possible. Eventually, your body will thank you for it and will heal!

Ask your doctor for "Silver sulfadiziane cream" It works to close the open wounds. I've been using it for 15 years.

@respectful, is there any other way I can get silver sulfadiazine maybe online or over the counter?
Also can you tell me anything else about silver sulfadiazine helping to close sores/wounds.. sounds like amazing stuff!!

You could also try zinc oxide? I've had some success with that when trying to close up an area that's been draining for a while.

Hi K9. I don't know if you can get it online but just type it in, and see if it comes up...My doctor has given me a prescription for it for years. It costs about 10.00 with insurance. It used to be 5.00 but they changed my husband's prescription plan.
Yes, It does heal eventually...although I can tell you, I am a very slow healer, quite different than the surgeon has ever seen in a patient before, he tells me I have "Weird Skin". LOL But it is safe to use day and night, I use it twice a day...No side effects either...My groin is finally closed, although I do get "paper cut" like openings on the top of my groin area to which I use the silver cream for...it always closes...He has talked about "Silver Nitrate Treatment" to close the wound that I have now, but I told him I'd rather stick to the Painless Silver Sulfa Cream, thanks very much!
