my doctor is atleast truthful with me by saying he doesnt know why i have HS. my doc doesnt tell me im dirty, or fat, or dont eat the right foods.
i really hate the moron doctors that give these type of excuses to the big question of why i have HS. i mean come on, all they do is lower our selfesteem.
im sorry that your going through this kaitlin. and i hope you find a doctor who knows what he is talking about.
I've also had doctors tell me I've got this disease because of being overweight, but I don't believe that. I think it's the other way around - I'm overweight because I've got HS which makes it really hard to do exercise because it hurts too much (I also took medication for epilepsy for 15 years that made me feel hungry all the time, so that didn't help!). When I first had HS I was not overweight, in fact I used to be really fit and active - was on my school athletics team and used to run 1500m and 5km for the school etc. So I was really fit and was a very healthy weight. But I still got HS, and I've become overweight since getting it. Having said that I have lost a bit of weight recently and it seems to me that my HS has got a bit better at the same time - I still get just as many sores but they don't get so swollen and so it doesn't hurt as much. It could be a coincidence that my HS has got better at the same time as I've lost weight though, as in my experience it does seem to get better and worse at different times through the years. And lots of people on this site have said their HS got worse when they lost weight.
I've also had doctors test me for diabetes because they think the HS might be caused by that, but I haven't got diabetes.
Sometimes I think that those of us who suffer from this disease understand it a lot better than the doctors / dermatologists who are meant to be the specialists!
