I am seeing my family Dr on Tuesday to talk about HS. I am not nervous about her seeing or knowing about the HS at all I just want to ask the right questions. Does anyone have any advice on what topics I should bring up or questions to ask. Thanks to all of you for your help!!!

Has she ever treated a patient with HS? If so, how many. Does she even know what HS is (many suprisingly don't)? Tell her everything you have tried. Discuss the benefits and risks of any suggested therapy. Research anything that she may prescribe before you fill your script. There are alot of side effects out there to be aware of. Discuss any emotional support she can suggest. Pain meds, depression meds, antibiotics, and topical care are all important areas... etc. I hope this helps a little. I pray your dr is smart and compassionate.

The visit was good and bad. My Dr is a good listener and very compassionate but I still feel like I will be going in circles. She gave me referals for a dermatologist and a therapist. I will be getting a bunch of blood work done including a test for ciliac and recheck my thyroid levels. I am happy for all of that but she couldn't really give me any advice besides using hot compresses. She said she has had a patient with HS in the past but we didn't talk about how it went. We touched on antibiotics which was a little disappointing for me but she dropped it as soon as I told her my feelings about it. All she said was that results could depend on the kind of antibiotic. So I guess it will be interesting to get my bloodwork results and talk with the dermatologist.

I am about to consult with my Dermatologist for the first time, this Tuesday, I am in the same basic situation as you are. Lots of questions and hopefully when we talk I will get lots of answers. Good luck with your Derm visit.

My skin doctor took me around in circles...I had to go to the ER to be taken seriously...
