Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
I'm stage 3 (or so my doctor has told me) and tramadol doesn't begin to touch the discomfort of my outbreaks, although I sincerely wish it did, as I don't much like the side effects of narcotic meds, but right now it is the only thing getting me by.
I have had many many many many lancings, and they are a night mare, hence why unless I absolutely HAVE to I avoid it at all costs.
I am scheduling myself for surgery to remove the damaged areas in my armpits, in an attempt to get some relief in that area. I know it is not 100% and there is the chance of recurrence, But I'm willing to chance it, even if it does only give me peace for a small while. I have had this since I was 19.
My mom used to get abscesses, but only in her inner lady area, and it was not very often when she did, but when she did it was a doozy to say the least. For a long time I didn't know how the heck she put up with it. Now I know all too well. My sister also has it, but so very mildly, one would like it not even worth mentioning.
And yeah, it sucks. I have one on the inside of my left thigh, right where the inner thighs meet, and right where the seams of pants run right beside it. I can't wear most underwear, so for the most part I go commando, which has helped some, but all it has done has aggravated this one particular one. So I feel ya. Hang in there, and keep posting, there are many folks here with ideas and home remedies that have worked for some. I do hope you are able to find something to make this easier to bear. My message box is always open if you need an ear to bend or need help finding information on our forum. Best of luck to you.
First, ditch your Doctor...and google those who specialize in HS (good luck, cuz it ain't many).
It does not "go away" ...it hides until disrupted..laying in wait.
I just visited the HS Institute website and under FAQ the question is "does it go away?" and the flat answer is NO. No additional comments....just NO.
It was disappointing to say the least..however, it is NOT CONTAGIOUS NOR INFECTIOUS and appears to be inflammatory in nature. Might add fish oil to my diet of hopeful cures.
With regards to Respectful...I just simply cried out...as having HS on the Labia is painful, embarrassing and majorly inconvenient. I worry about self-contamination when going to the bathroom.
I just don't know how I got here....I try to remember the early stages, what was going on in my style of life....just can't pin-point it.
People talk about the worst places to have HS...I'm thinking any place is a bad place, but during defecation has the potential of exacerbation of the disease...especially near the anus or vaginal region while sores are open and draining. Sigh.
I had the same procedure 3 years ago.
My Mom was in the waiting room and heard me cry out and came running. They sent her back to the reception area.
I begged for general and was told that my insurance would not cover general anesthesia...only local. But of course, I guess I could have written a check for comfort amount. WTF??
I recall while having the procedure done, the doctor was literally standing on his tippy toes, as he PUSHED DOWN on my lesion, to expel the golf-ball size demon.
When I crawled out into the waiting area, folks were horrified, as they knew it was me screaming. I'm no wuss, but this brings me to my knees. My mom just cried as she helped into the car.
I will never have them lanced AGAIN.This is insane.
