OK, a little new to the forum and I have to say I am a little more depressed after reading a lot of these posts.
Thought I would lighten things up and start a funny thread. What is the craziest thing you have ever tried to treat/prevent HS?
I will of course go first...
A co-worker who had the same thing going on told me onions help to draw the gunk out. She had taped an onion over an abscess and it had popped overnight. So I sliced up an onion and stuck it in my underwear overnight and tried to secure it in place with a thick paper towel(Boy, was I feeling attractive that night). Anyway- I had no luck, but I think that has to be (so far) the weirdest thing I've tried.

I have performed self-surgery on mine since the time I was in middle school. I would apply benzocaine or ice to numb them, then lance them with a razor blade, poke around a little bit to get all the gunk out, pack them with gauze and antibiotic cream and tape them shut. I started doing this when I was like 11 years old. My own kids are older than that now ad when I think about them using a blade on their skin I am HORRIFIED, but it worked fine for me!
Not that turmeric is a strange HS remedy, but I had a strange experience with it because I didn't know if it would work best internally or externally so I dusted the affected parts with it so of course it got all over my underwear. When my shorts hit the laundry they looked like someone tried to mop up a crime scene with them, they turned blood-red. Imagine what a loss I was at for what had just happened until I Googled this and finally figured out it was a chemical reaction between turmeric and oxygenating bleach.
