I have read a few examples of people who said that birth control has helped "tame" their HS. If your one of those ladies, what birth control did you find most effective? I am currently on Nuvaring which was meant to clear up my Ovarian cyst, which worked but I seem to be flaring up worse in other places now.

I haven't found that any contraceptive has been effective. Back in September, I had the Nexplanon implant inserted. I just had my second-ever outbreak that started a few weeks ago. I have read that, in women, outbreaks can be caused by hormonal changes (i.e. monthly cycle), so altering that cycle may be detrimental...but every body is different.

In my experience BC makes it worse! I just switched back to the paraguard iud because there are no hormones just copper ions. So far nothing new, but I did just have surgery so everything is very calm right now. But can I just say that would be so awesome if BC worked on hs like it does acne.... I'd just loose my mind with excitement!!!

I was on Nuvaring for the past 5 years and just recently stopped using it and have had less flare ups. My thighs are actually clearing up, I just have a big one on my butt, though the ones on my butt usually clear up on their own after a couple of days. I don't know if there is any correlation but while on Nuvaring I had numerous terrible flare ups which resulted in two surgeries so I don't think it makes a difference.
