Well, I just found out last nite..after going in to the ER to attempt to get the doc to lance 3 of the worst ones I have right now(no they lanced nothing,gave pain meds and Bactrim)..That I am HIGHLY allergic to the crap!
I had had one previous episode the last time I went to the ER. I hadn't even been away from the hospital 30mins before I was right back in the ER.Of course it was a diffrent ER in the same county closer to where I live. I fainted,with a HB of 133 in the Walgreens,thankfully my hubby was there with me so no hitting the floor for me.
The docs thought I was having a panic attack,didn't think the meds had anything to do with it,got my heart rate back down somewhat,then I proceeded to projectile vomiting.
This last wonderful merry go round, I went to the ER got a prescrip. for Bactrim and Vicodin.Held off on the Vicodin until after my first dose of Bactrim..Needless to say it had not been in my stomach for even 3 mins before my gums started tingling and itching,then my skin turned all pink,then I couldn't breathe,then I would take coughing fits,along with chills (goosebumps and all!),then came the joint pain,muscle pain,then projectile vomiting.Just like my last episode..You would think that ER docs that prescribe that stuff regularly (round here an order of Bactrim is like walking into the bar and ordering a Bloody Mary) would know what side effects these meds have and would have been able to tell the diffrence.
Anyways..that's the end of my rant..stupid disease,(sometimes)even STUPIDER docs, I WANT OUT OF MY BODY!! ARRGH! lol
P.S> Have taken Bactrim before a bunch of times before this popped up,I know,you can suddenly become allergic to meds you once took with ease. :(
Any of you experienced this kind of stuff, doc puts you on meds multiple times before only to months or years later become allergic?My biggest worry is that now since Bactim is a no no for me,how many other antibiotics am I gonna be given that will cause the same thing! I'm worried that this kinda crap will proceed just like with the Bactrim and I'll be left with very few antibiotics that will be able to help me.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Right now I'm on a 2 month dose of Sulfameth. The heatburn and diarrea went away after the first month. A small price to pay. So far it's be working great. But both my Derm and reg Doc have made it clear they won't put me on it again for a long time. I guess it's the Antibiotic used to treat staff infections, so If God borbid I got one I would be in the hospital with an IV drip. They just don't want me to become immune to it.
Becareful if you try any sulfa drugs, my sisters throat closes up when she takes them.
If I get a new scripts, or multiple scrpts. I try to take one at a time to start with, start 1 one, then start another one the next. Then I can figure out which one I'm allergic to. Like last month I got and Antibiotic pill, wash, and lotion. Day 1, just the pill. Day 2 the pill and the wash. Day 3 all 3.
And people like us should never take a new med by ourselves. I try to do it over the weekend when I know I won't be alone, just in case of a severe reacton.
As for an alleregy over time, I'm usually allergic right away but become immune over time. Then I get to start all over! Yuck!
