I have not been posting much on here but read everyone's post almost nightly. I sympathize with each of you when I read your stories as I know how debilitating HS can be. I get so frustrated with each new flare-up.
I am scheduled to see a plastic surgeon and infectious disease control specialist on Thursday. I am starting to get nervous. I have read a few things about the surgeries they do and I am uncertain as I want to go thru with them.
I wouldn't even consider it but I have a history of MRSA and am allergic to many antibiotics. I just had a lesion a couple weeks ago that was MRSA related and was taking vancomycin and clindamycin in IV therapy. My physician told me these meds were no longer working and there is a great concern that I am going to get another infection and no one is going to be able to treat it and get it under control, which can lead to lots of problems. So this is adding extra stress for me.
I have HS in my peritoneal area, my breast and my forehead. Wondering if anyone has any surgeries and what i can expect, and how the outcome was for them. I am just ready to get this over with but yet so nervous about what the surgery consist of. Thanks for listening.

Try and relax though....the surgery will only help....and i'm sure its better than suffering through a bad flare....or it will be in the long run.
I've been lucky though.....HS but negative for MRSA.
You will get through this.....do not be afraid accept it and FIGHT!

The 2nd surgery was in August. The incision from the surgery was about 5"-6" in length and about 2" deep by 2.5" wide. I had 7 stitches, 5 of which tore within the first 2 weeks of recovery. Since the stitches tore, I had to go through wound therapy. It started with 3 weeks of pulse lavage (very painful if you don't take your meds before you go), followed by 6.5 weeks of wound vac therapy (basically they attach a vacuum to the wound and it provides a constant suction to help close the wound).
The last surgery was in December. The incision for that one was much smaller, so my recovery was less intense. I only had 4 stitches and tore only 1. The resulting wound was not large enough to warrant wound/vac therapy so I was able to do that one on my own.
I have been back to work since Jan. 11 and all seems to be going well (I was off for 6 months total). I do have significant scarring from the surgeries as well as some irritation from the bandages, but other than that, no problems at all.
I also work with a plastic surgeon and infectious diseases doctor. They continue to follow up with me every couple of months to make sure that I have no new flare ups.
I wish you the best with your treatment and hope that you don't have as painful a recovery as I did.
My derm has a therapy where he goes into the tracts with electrodes.....collapses the tracts and then cauterizes the openings closed. His father was also a derm in the same practice and it is something they developed over the years.
Not traditional but he says it will provide relier for about 6 months to a year before there is another flare. I think I can extend that time by continuing to practice my gluten free diet and doing all that I can to stay healthy.
Once I get the money/basically when my disability goes through that is the first thing I'm going to do.
