This is interesting Shannon and I think this issue right here divides many of us suffering from HS into two groups. I am also negative for MRSA like you which is a real blessing because the minocycline and stuff will work for us at slowing down the progression of the illness. However having open sores like we do we need to be very careful about hygiene especially in public so we do not get MRSA.

Others of us on here do have MRSA and HS. This means the only way to really treat their HS is by the superpowerful antibiotics (Vancomycin and teicoplanin) sort of new to the market that can even cause kidney failure and problems they are so strong. I don't know what I would do without my minocycline and stuff thats only about 30 bucks without insurance.

Some of the people with HS do have MRSA as well and i'm sure they suffer more for it. I got to rememeber to me more sensitive when talking to people to because not everyone's experience with HS is like mine. Luckily right now i just happen to be in a period where i'm not too terribly over weight and am feeling better. Since I work and stuff one bad day with HS can almost mess up my whole life you know.

Anyway yes i think this is a good post and something we all need to be aware of!

Another point....without MRSA we have HS so we get boils for that reason....whether is genetics, hormones, altered body chemistry, Celiac whatever causes us to outbreak....

The people with MRSA as well not only get boils for that reason but also because of the MRSA itself.

So in my mind It seems like double outbreaks or more frequent outbreaks for two different reasons.

Another superbug, glad you brought it up..... AS long as we have antibiotic resistance there will be more and more of these.....My daughter has never been tested positive for mrsa but I am pretty sure she has this stuff. Everytime she gets a culture she has been on antibiotics too long and it comes out negative..... So, I treat her as if she does have it hygeine wise and the docs give us bactroban like it is candy ( a topical for mrsa).....her immune system is also poor with the Down Syndrome. I also feel hygeine is very important with the HS as open sores can become infected quite easily. One really does not want to do Vancomycin unless they are having major problems as you get immune to this stuff with mrsa and you have major problems. Anyway, I saw the article about the new one and thought great, another wonderful superbug! As if the hospitals dont have enough to deal with just with the mrsa...thanks for sharing tangerinebear xo p.s. by the way, I love hearing from all of u xo

Thanks Shannon I am always trying to stay healthy. It is really nice to have infolike this to keep us mentally prepared to be even more cautious!!! I for one can't really take too many things other than Vanco for cellulitis at this point bc they just dont work anymore!!! I will admit it makes me a bit more scared with each bout that I may not be able to stop the infections!!BTW I really want you to know how much each of the friends I have made here have truely made my life 100% better. Goodness, Elisa got clyndamycin for her cellulitis....vanco is a big drug for a big disease...Not to be used lightly for sure but if it helps that is all that matters..... Truly value all of you guys. have a good weekend guys, tangerinebear xo

Thanks guys. I just couldn't let it go by without sharing.
I feel really bad for those of us who get the MSRA side of this disease.
I mean for one side of us, it's painful, degrading, humiliating and CAN end your life if not treated if it gets past a certain point. But you add in MRSA to the mix and that can almost guarantee an end if not treated quickly.
Several of my mother in law's clients have passed on after surgery with a resulting infection with MRSA. Granted these were older folks, but when your immune system is already out of whack, it almost puts us at the immunity level of the elderly (no offense to my elders, just in my circle most older folks are in poor health), if you think about it.
I can't take doxycyline(or any of it's "sisters") Bactrim (or any of it's "sisters) or Clyndamiacin...thanks docs for overprescribing for so long!
Right now I'm on Augmentin, but it don't look like it's helping much at the moment, but at least I'm not puking my guts up or going into allergic shock thank goodness.
I'm just hoping that this antibiotic I'm on brings my white cell count down so my doc don't start getting ideas about putting my in the hospital for iv antibiotics.
I am not good at being a patient patient..lol
