Well I'm a woman over 40 and it definitely hasn't stopped for me. I haven't gone through menopause yet though, and my outbreaks are clearly tied to my menstrual cycle, so maybe it will settle down a bit after that?

I sometimes use Hibiclens, but it's strong stuff. More than a light application once in a while causes my skin to break down, leading to breaks and then more sores. I did see improvement after about 4 months of oral antibiotics.

Oh my! Are you on birth control if you don't mind me asking. Has it helped if you are taking it? Prob a silly question to ask. Yes I have tried hibiclens does dry my skin out. Kinda expensive though. Not a lot goes along way either. Mine seems to be more heavy during my mental cycles too and of course when it's summer time. Have you tried a sits bath? Just nothing in the water just very hot water. Works for me. I thought I'd share.

Hi. I use dial. Hopefully it agrees with you. My physicians consistantly tell me I do a good job of caring for my HS sites, so I guess it's effective.

I've seen quite a few people swear by the Hibiclens option, you an usually find a cheaper 4% Chlorhexidine (Surgical wash) at the chemist. I use it and wash it off... you don't want to kill too much skin flora persistently.

I also use iodine/povidine at the sign of a flare up - not certain how much it is helping... some I think.

Nurses advised me to use something a lot milder like QV Wash or Pinetarsol.

I used Phisohex (PH Neutral Acne treatment) as a full body wash for about 10 years and in retrospect... didn't help at all.

I think almost everyone on here does use it. I was told to only use dove body wash and hibiclens. It's really sad because bath and wash has the best stuff just not for my skin breaks me out.

I use Hibiclens every other day, or 3 times a week. It can dry out your skin, so I also use a body wash. It has helped, but it doesn't stop the flare ups. Also, do not use it if you have an open wound, because OUCH!!! It stings! I've been told that white, unscented Dove soap is very gentle on skin, so that might be a good supplement.

Hello I am a woman and late 40s and I still have flairs of HS. I use Dial gold as my body wash right now due to the flairs. Hibiclens was recommended 3x a week but only when I have no open areas. depending on where your flairs are...you could try a scented soap on your arms, legs ect just not in the area where you are having a flair.

Just saw the wound care nurse two days ago she actually said to use Dove sensitive as my body was. PH is very close to our own skin. Two days now and so far so good.

I use Hibiclens all the time with no issues. It was recommended by my doc. Got huge bottle on Amazon and it lasts.

I have been using Pinetarsol works for me. I also use peroxide to clean when I think I'm a bit smelly. I have also taken some CKOne (Calvin Kline) and mixed in a small spray bottle with water (50/50) seems the alcohol helps me from time to time and smells good.

I'm also in my late 40's and my HS has only started presenting in the past 6 months

I am pretty much back in remission and have lost 15 pounds coincidentally. She tells the truth. There is nothing to buy except the book, which you can get on amazon, but I am telling you this woman saved my life and perhaps my sanity. I have suffered with this disease for 14 years and I am better in just a couple of weeks. Please get this book!

My doctor told me to begin using Hibiclens. Since then, I have had less issues.
