I wrote this the summer i first tried heroin and was raped. It was a world of regret and sadness. I never thought that i'd be where i am right now. It really does get better, and it may not feel that way, but it does. It always gets worse before it gets better. Just remember that. Keep your head up everyone <3 You're all worth it <3
I am 62 years old now but I had a 40 year off and on heroin addiction. Mostly on unless I was in jail, prison, or treatment. I got on methadone the last time out of the Dept. of Corrections and I have never looked back to that hell. I eventually became a prostitute on the streets. I had been beaten and robbed and did the same to others. IT is the most miserable way of life there is. And it takes everyone down unless they hit a bottom or have some kind of spiritual phenomenon like the big book says. I had two precious kids that help me stop. I almost lost them to foster care but thank God I got out and did what I had to do to get them back. I know the methadone help me stay out of the system and I have not relapsed. I know I will have to be on a dose that will keep away cravings the rest of my life but I am glad the last 23 years have been amazing! My kids are grown now and I finished raising them and I have my own place and auto and am happy. It can work.
