Jamie-I have never been addicted to heroin but I have been closely associated with others that are. I have been through a lot in my childhood which taught me not to value myself. I have since learned that seeing myself through my own eyes, or through the eyes of others is not a true measure of my worth. And that is what I say to you. We can teach others from our experiences, and it is in that act of giving, that we are healed. A little at a time. It doesn't happen overnight. If you were able to stay clean for a year and a half, you can do it again. You have to keep trying, no matter how many times it takes. Just don't ever quit trying. Reaching out in this support group, shows you have a deep down desire to succeed. You are not doing this alone.

my son was clean for a year and a half. he relapsed but is now clean again. he went to a school for inner healing and surrounded himself with goood positive influences. stayed away from the drug friends. you need to know how much you are worth. God loves you and has a plan for your life! he wants you to succeed. if you need to go to rehab there are free ones oout there. teen challenge is one

it's an ongoing battle. much like you, i learned from an early age i was worth little...another ongoing battle i am fighting. honestly, that battle is worse than the heroin.
i've been clean almost 5 years and am killer happy about that.

Hi, My son is a heroin addict, now living on the streets of San Francisco. We are from the Chicago Suburbs. He is going to be 31. He started using Heroin at 17 so, from a parents point of view, living with him and try to help him, and certainly understanding the addictions, and addictions in general , I feel I may be able to offer some hope. I still think he can.

Don't think anyone can do it for you. They can't. You can have friends and family to support and love you thru this hard journey though.

So, even though he is struggling, many have come to terms to subdue it. All addictions are hard, especially Heroin, but all can be successfully treated and contained.
It will take more than just love, since he had plenty of that, and being afraid, and even seeing people die from this doesn't prevent it, at least from what I have seen.

It will take loving your self and knowing somehow, things will get better, but from your life level, where you are now, you can only see and feel what you do, and that is so normal. But there is so many things you can do, like the many help groups, treatment, reading, hanging with good friends and seeing a new way, even exercise etc..

I think being realistic, the longer you can sustain from the emotional and physical pull of having it, the better your chances of staying clean. I think you have to know that even after a year of being clean, you will have some strong urges, or triggers that will come, but the real good news is, they are much less frequent and as strong as what you are experience now, and hopefully you have the tools to handle that.

So, you can, and will have a wonderful life. Yes, good times, and some stress as well, it's life but so much abundance of joy you have in front of you to live, and life is precious , and you need to tell yourself, you are too, in order to make this hard climb out, but you can, and you will.

Many , wonderful things will happen that you can't even imagine, that will fill your heart with happiness! I promise, that's true. Promise!! That's the vision you need to have, and need to believe (Because it so true) that will make this journey worth all the hard , hard work ahead and it will be hard, but so worth it, because you are!
