I'm in recovery for coda, my unofficial boyfriend is in recovery for a long drug habit, he seems to be doing well, but I get horrible feelings that this is short lived, he is going to meetings, has 2 steady jobs, is just seemingly wanting to be in recovery, I want to believe in him, but he's fallen before and he may fall again, I know it's not my job to worry, as long as he's doing the work and taking his medication sub that he is on the road, I just love him so much and I'm not unique in my worry or my love, many have made it and many have not, I know that HIS recovery is up to him, I just want to know its possible

I am up in the air on this myself. I have tried many times to kick opiates for good but I always end up going back. I have never tried any kind of treatment, rehab, or even meetings... so, it's no wonder I always failed. It sounds to me that he is doing all the right things. I say just keep loving and supporting him and pray that he doesnt relapse!

Ive heard success stories. Its possible but the statistics are scary. Its a tough addiction to beat.

It is pussible, but I always questions the likelyhood. I think that we are not at the techonlogical level and scientific level required to reach effectiveness and safety.

For the most part the people that treat us are ignorance of science. So we better put a little science in under our belt so that we as patients can start a movement based on Evidence BAsed Treatment and not be bullshited by clinicans that for the most part are quacks when it comes to science and the scientific treatment we need.

We can manage heroin well with methadone and suboxone. For Alcholics FDA approaved a very effective medication that is being ignored by most treatment facilities.

I think that we are at a very primitive or stone age when it come to treatment of substance use disorder and we need to advocate for ourselves and start a movement demanding that clinicians do their job when it come to science. Science belongs in treatment of medical pactices. Spirituallity generally belongs with relgious issues.

I think and from my brother and friends that I know it's 50-50. Sad to say most of the 50% who kept using have died. Two of my friends were able to quit after a 7-10 year stint in prison for armed robbery. Today 20 years later they both are off the needle. My brother died in 01 from a O.D. He was on methadone for years at the VA and would still use. And he spent most of his 20's and 30's in and out of jail.
My 22 year old son is on his 2nd go around in prison for smoking heroin and meth.
There is always hope though
