Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I have been tracking this virus in me for approx 15 yrs and have always had a steady Alt. of 107 and Ast.of 65 rescently snice Mar. of this year its been up at 250 and 150 .I seem to have read somewhere that severe liver damage occurs when these counts are up in the 1,000 plus area .My question is what have some of you folks experenced to be high ?
You are talking about your liver enzymes right?
The normal range for ALT's is: between 0 and 45
and the AST's is between 1 - 41.
Now if you want to know your viral load, which is the amount of virus measured in your blood, you will need to get a special blood test known as PCR.
