Hi SusaB - Okay...lets back into an answer. The old treatment is called combination therapy. It is a combination of pegINT and RBV
(peginterferon and ribavirin).
The new therapy is called triple therapy and takes combination therapy, but adds to it, one of two new drugs: Incivek or Victrelis.

the two new protease inhibitors are older hiv drugs. they are geared to catch 1-a nonresponders with a success rate of nearly 90 % . in fact they have became the new soc.

that 90% rate is so lovely!

Yeah, lovely enough to get me to take the garbage. I hate the idea of dumping all that poison into my body but that kind of rate can't be scoffed at.

Garbage in, garbage out.
Medicine in, virus out.

Let me add...its the old Tx plus a new pill that you take 3 times a day along with a meal that contains about 20 grams of fat to slow down the digestive tract to increase absorbtion on the new medicine (Incevik) .However, You do not have to follow this diet with the Victrelis. there are other differences in the two as far as how you take it and side effects (I believe Victrelis has less...Im on Incivek and I do not find the sides that bad except for the ass pain) and I have not gotten the incivek rash i here about. A little itching thats it.
Also..the new pills (at least with the Incivek, is taken only for the first 3 months. You are tested at 4 and 12 weeks and if you are undetectable at both weeks your Tx is cut in 1/2 for first timers.(24 total weeks)
For all others its the 48 week plan
i am in week 7, was undie at 4, along with everyone else whos been on it on DS so far as I am aware of., so it looks more than hype...at least right now.
Oh...and the new pill alone costs $20,000 for a month supply, totalling $60,000...so it better work or insurence companies are going to drop it like a bad habit..
yeh..it must be good cause the companies that make it are acting cocky as hell, even giving away free meds in some cases to people that have no other option to pay, and you dont do that if you think there might be a problem with your product...what there really doing by giving a way product is called word of mouth advertising...the best kind. If you got alot of people who are walking around cured...well, thats about as good a advertising as your gonna get!....in my opinion..

Let me also say that there reason i hear 90% instead of the 79% success rate which it says right on the literature that comes with the box, that im reading now..thankyou..is many. Some trials have reported 90% success, as well as better numbers for first timers, as well as the fact that if you test under at 4 weeks..your chances at an SVR jumps to 90% as it means the virus is showing minimul resistance to Tx.
But if you call them they will say 79%, i like to say 80% or now that I tested under a 4 weeks...90%

And..if you tested positive at 4 weeks and you are over a 1000 VL ALL Tx STOPS...as they deem you a non responder..and there is something called the futility rules (soon to be a major motion picture that I am working on starring Matt Damon)
1000..that is a small window indeed...had me worried..i was asking my doctor insane questions like...what if Im 1001...I must of given him a headache.

Also..i believe there is such a small window becuase this new med seems to clear people in days..they have been testing some people at 2 weeks and they are clear...but the protocal from the drug company is 4 and 12 weeks..so my Doc didnt want to piss off my insurence.and waited till 4 weeks

If u have kids while on Inivek, your child will have 3 heads and possibly a tail.

If your name is Biakome...Incivek may lead to Olive Oil abuse.

I was wondering because I was in a clinical trail in 2009 (in sept of that year is when I started tx). The trail med had to be taken 3 times a day with something fatty. The trail med. it self looked like a fish oil pill. I was undie in three weeks, was taken off the trail med in 12 wks and off tx in 24 wks. Before I started the clinical trail they told me that the trail med had been tested on monkeys (who came down with heart problems) and then on 8 people (i think , it wasn't many) for a very short time. My self and the others who were accepted were going to be the first real trail group. That worried me at first. I would like to think that just maybe one of these new drugs that are helping so many, I had a part in. But with out a doudt because some folks put them self on the line these new drugs are here and helping.

The folks here at DS so truly helped me through my treatment, I was not alone and most of all the laughs. If I didn't say thank you to the caring people of DS let me say it now. If it hadn't been for all of you I don't think I could have made the 24 wks.

One year later and I'm still clear!!!

Sweet SusaB, sounds like the Icivek alright, and ur still clearafter a year , that "IS" good news as Im in week 7 of the TRip Tx and was clear at 4 and slated for 24 as of now
My doctor insists that if you test clear 6 months after Tx that he will consider me cured, so you susab are cured!!!!!
