Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I've just finished my 8th week (9 shots) but was wondering about those who tested 0 at 12 weeks and beyond during and after treatment but then came down with it again? I mentioned to my doc that I heard you should get rid of everything like all used razors, toothbrushes, nail clippers, every week throughout the treatment, so you don't reinfect yourself from week to week.
She said she doesn't recommend that. Next time I will remember to ask what about at the end of treatment?
Has anyone here been able to determine if its something they did or if in fact that nasty stuff is just still hiding from the blood tests and once treatment is over it jumps right back into the stream.
I mentioned somewhere else on the board a couple weeks ago that it reminds me of Christopher Reeve in the movie "Somewhere in Time" where he thinks he was sure he got rid of all coins in his pocket that were recent and when he grabs up the new penny he disappears from the past and comes back to the present.
Also, I haven't asked my doc yet, but just thought about this: Are there any followup medications that are prescribed after treatment to help us get our health back?

i think you're right in that the virus comes back if it was completely irradicated. but my doc also told me that the medical community is thinking if the virus reappears after a few years they are now thinking that the person just reinfected themselves?
I just was hoping there were some basic suggestions that might limit the chance of it coming out of hiding or getting it from a personal razor that might have the disease on it without realizing it.
I trust my doctor but usually people with personal experience with the therapy might think of something a doctor hadn't heard of.

I have a friend who went through chemo, and it or the cancer brought the virus back to life.
