I went on treatment March 14, 2012. Started 180 iu injections of interferon weekly and 800 mg of ribavarin daily (two in the morning, two in the evening.) Had no side effects for the first two weeks and then it hit me. Hemoglobin went down to 85 ( Canadian measures) and I was literally in bed til 3 weeks ago. I was injected with Eprex for my anemia twice weekly with 20,000 iu but that was increased to 40,000 iu after two weeks. My hemoglobin stayed low until the dr decided to lower the dosage of interferon from 180 iu to 135 iu weekly. My side effects backed off dramatically and the Eprex was lowered to 20,000 iu twice weekly. That's where I am now. The ribavarin was never lowered. I had a viral load test done at 4 weeks and it came back undetected. I had another viral load test done at 11 weeks and it came back undetected. The dr has suggested that he doesn't believe it will come back and that I am clear. I am still finishing the treatment which ends August 28th. - only 6 months of treatment. Today I was able to make supper and paint some trim at my son's house. I couldn't have done that 3 weeks ago. I am thrilled.
