Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I have been trying really hard to understand this itchy rash. For months now I have dabbed myself with everything from acetone to zinc oxide, to no avail.
A few of these remedies, like Absorbine Veterinary Liniment, seemed to offer promise but actually just aggravated the condition after a few treatments.
Topical hydrocortisone is absorbed into the skin and causes vascular constriction, inhibiting histamine.
Antihistamine blocks histamine receptors, halting further histamine production. Histamine is released in reaction to allergens.
Therefore, it is my hypothesis that treatment induced rash is essentially an allergic reaction since the only two things that have relieved it for me have been hydrocortisone cream and antihistamine.
Please note that Im not talking about dry skin or hepatic pruritis. There are many lotions and moisturizers that aid these conditions.
Im talking about RIBA RASH and INCIVEK RASH.
What are your thoughts?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Hope some people have some ideas for you...for all of us....doesn't your doc have any suggestions?
My rash is very inconspicous and merely aggravating. If I showed it to you you'd all say "yeah what?" I can be fine for days then suddenly a tiny red spec of a bump will appear. To look at it...nothing...but the itch is intense and god forbid you get going on it. My skin seems unusually fragile and easily damaged. Scrathing is unproductive anyway. Now, the moment I feel a new spot forming I cover it with hydrocortisone to manage it. Once, after getting some sunshine, I had a terrible allergic reaction. I took a benedryl and was fine. Before switching to the hydrocortisone, the little bump would blossom into a patchy, scaley dermatitis. The more you'd scratch them the bigger they'd grow. So what is the actual pathobiology...?
Oh yeah, these drugs are photoreactive - stay out of the sun!
Started all drugs on Tuesday morning 34 weeks ago.
No protease inhibitor is involved. My trial studies dosing for a polymerase inhibitor, which is the same thing, only different..hah!
I also used Systral Cream (Chlorphenoxamine). The pharmacist told me this was much better than Hydrocortisone for treating rashes due to allergic reactions. He claimed the Hydrocortisone only helped stop the itch, not the rash itself.
Using both the rash and itching cleared right up, but anytime I ran out, it would come back quick.
