Hi
I just got my test results back and my ast was 149 and alt 137. What does this mean. I am a diabetic so my doctor could not say much. I dont feel sick. Looking for some feedback .. i am really messed up in the head.

you should look up greg on here. hes very knowlegable about this stuff. karymelly knows a good bit too. i dont know shit and am quickly forgetting what i knew..

Your scores are about 3x 'normal' range. This is not a panic level; I've seen 400-500 ALT scores on non-symptomatic patients.

However they are elevated enough for serious follow-up. Are you seeing a gastroenterologist? Actually, if your hospital has a hepatologist, that's the specialist you want.

Here are some other blood test results that are part of a true liver profile: Total Bilirubin, Platelets, creatinine, INR. Albumin, Alkaline Phosphatase. If your provider can't explain the relevance of each of these numbers, get a new specialist.

now you need to go see a specialist for the liver. a GI doc or a hepatologist. choose a doctor who has supervised a LOT of people going through treatment.

you need more blood tests to find out your viral load & what genotype you are? and a lot of doctors will want to do a liver biopsy. i never had one though. if you don't want a biopsy they can do an ultrasound and some other blood tests.

then, after you get more information from all these tests you can decide if you are going to do one of the new treatments coming out.

the ALT and AST are two blood tests that lets you know how much bile -type stuff is in your blood. your results are slightly elevated but are definitely above normal.

oh, DO YOU HAVE HEP C ? have you had the test to see if you actually have it? maybe you have something else? or, they could be high if you drink a lot?

or, the ALT and AST could be high if you are on lots of medications. there are a myriad of things that make liver enzymes high.

i took a look at your profile and you don't say if you even have hep C so perhaps you don't?

I was on efferor door depression but stop in feb. Was on for 4 years. Also I take a lot of vitiamins and protein shakes for working out.
I have to look at my blood test to see what other test were done
