Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
16 weeks into Solv/Riba, all was going well, UND for 8 weeks now, and I was just sitting down with my wife talking about how smoothly things seemed to have gone with the insurance Co.
Ooops! CVS fill my Px, and for the first 12 weeks they had been very efficient at calling me to arrange shipment. The last month tho, they had not called me at one week before my pills ran out, so I called them. No prob, they shipped them immediately. This last month, same thing, no call, so I called a week out again and they said they would have the pills to me for Thursday, yesterday. I run out on Sunday.
Wednesday morning my wife and I chat, and Weds afternoon I get a cal from CVS saying that they were still waiting for authorisation from my insurance. But wait?!? I have already had 16 weeks? Why a problem now?
I have spent 2 days on the phone, back and forth with doctor, Insurance, CVS, and still we wait for approval. Apparently they need to re-approve these meds as they are so expensive. I get that, but why no notice? And why would they jeopardize 4 months of work at the Tx at this stage? Waste of money or what????!?!
Whatever happens now, I will definitely not get my Tx if the approval does happen this morning until Weds. earliest. The pharmacist at CVS tells me that Sovaldi stays in the system for a 'few days', and Riba a couple days more, but my doctor is unsure of the possible effects of this break in meds as the Tx is so new and untried in that respect.
I am not very pleased, but am trying to get thru this with grace.
Anyone else had this kind of break? It could be 2 or 3 days at best...

I hope you 1) get your drugs started up again. 2) If not,then hang onto to your nondetect status.
Why would the insurer do this, taking a risk that you fail and have to reapply for coverage again in the future??

If you've done everything you can do, I'd try to go with what the pharmacist said because it is not under your control & freaking out is not healthy.

If, god forbid, you fail tx, I would talk yo an attorney and I would also share the info with the drug manufactures so they can throw this idiocy at Congress when they say ins can't afford. By lacks any sense
They then said that they could not get it to me overnight for Saturday, but I had already called UPS to check, so I had them re-check, and eventually they said they could get it to me. I am expecting a package this morning!
As always, people seem to be the lowest common denominator in all these things, some are very helpful, some have their hands tied and are unwilling to go out on a limb, and some are just plain unhelpful or idiotic. I think the key is to keep applying gentle persuasion at the right points to get progress. Thank you for all your concern and help! Onwards and upwards!!!
It always makes me feel like I've accomplished something and at the same time dumbfounded and angry when if you are persistent you can get done what ten people tell you is impossible simply because they are too lazy to do it! have had with with banks, and other service cos.
I find it amazing that a company like CVS Specialty Pharmacy have to 'find a wifi signal' to be able to service a need for a customer that could very well be life or death. Not so in my case I know, but very likely possible in some cases. A very poor effort.
Now I will definitely be having that break in meds, I just don't know how long, and when the meds will arrive now. I do not need this stress, I am trying to breath and not let it get to me, the Universe has its reasons!
Anyone reading this - stock up on your pills now - I don't mean to upset you Rocker, but I don't trust my Ins, so I stocked up ahead of time and also had the (only approved for 12 week problem).
Optum Rx never called me back on a weekend either - but it was not
that critical......
I would try Gilead - you never know, they might have a way to get you a couple pills.....
Try one of our Nurse 800 numbers they provide....

Oh damn, just praying this all goes thru for you - somehow with NO break!!
They had a guy drive 8 hours to get these to me in time! I am very very grateful. Thank you CVS!
