I told my husband in one of our first conversations. Didn't want to waste time with some one that didn't understand. He never ever flinched. That was 8 years ago and we are still going strong. I wouldn't have made it through tx if it wasn't for him. I am one of the lucky ones.
He was my rock when tx didn't work.

At this point in time - with a CURE so close for the majority (?) of us, there's another alternative:

If you are not now in an intimate relationship, and don't want to deal with this awkward conversation - WAIT. Once you're cured you won't ever have to have this conversation, or, if you choose to, it is quite a different conversation to say i "used to" have HCV but I'm cured.

I, personally, would rather remain chaste the rest of my life then ever have to tell anyone I was trying to start a relationship with. It's SOOOO hard as it is!

But it's a non-issue for me, since no one seems to care enough for me to get to this point! :-)

I will just live out my life and die ALONE! Cause even if I'm cured of this, i still have herpes, even though that is in remission and my OBGYN said "unofficially" having not had a break out in over a decade i cannot give it to anyone.

For me it's not a case of fear of passing on the virus but rather if a relationship is getting serious there is the potential for future health problems. Yes even if we get to SVR, the virus has been known to hide out and return. Also the damage done by treatment can result in other health issues.
Just as if someone was a cancer survivor or any other physical or mental health issues, personally I would want my life partner to know.

..and I'm not talking about casual dating..

Kramer, I agree that health conditions should be discussed thoroughly with any long term partner.

But I would assume that people that don't want to disclose their HCV status are those who aren't looking for anything other than casual sex. Still, I think the other person has the right to know.

Personally i think a guy would not stand much chance with a woman he just meet...there are many guys who is HCV free so why the woman would pick me? What quality i would got to offer for her to stick around? As we said there is a stigma attached to hepatitis period. It is a deadly virus so good luck to explain it. Try to white wash something for a reason what ever that would be.

I think woman may have easier time to keep the man. What i have read most /all guy stayed in the relationship, but woman would think twice..I hope i am not exegurating.Personally i would NOT tell or at least not on the beginning of a relationship. Maybe down the road?

Thanks Oz. No hard feelings man. Fun is good on DS but sometimes attempts at good discussions get hijacked and blown away . There is plenty of room for both.

Maybe some of us just disqualified to provide the right answer for this post. This question is for the folks whom are still fighting the disease. We quickly made it light weight, for no really reason, or to be mean, it just happened. Yes it is a serious question for many people rightfully.What we have should of , could of, would of is a different issue for us today.

I just see some posts end up flooded with endless links to YouTube music videos and I kind of think that is disrespectful to the person who started a worthwhile discussion. That's all ..do as you wish. I'm not here that much anymore. I just like to post things HCV related that I have found on the WWW.
