taking benadryl?

my hubby starts his first treatment this thursday, doc says bring along benadryl.. anyone know what kind?? and what its for?? thanks!!

Yes, benadryl helps prevent any allergic reactions, it will help sedate him so he doesn't feel as nervous. Bendaryl also helps prevent nausea (it's what dr's had me use to prevent me from vomiting during migraines I had when I pregnant). It also helps prevent the rash you can get from treatment and having reaction from the injection site. Also, the best thing to do for the very first treatment is to sleep it off. People tend to be the most uncomfortable with the first shot, so benadryl will help him sleep through it.

As for the kind of benadryl, even generic will work as long as the active ingredient is diphenhydramine. You don't need the more fancy kinds, because usually all they add to it is either tylenol or a decongestant or both. If he is taking tylenol make sure you don't get the one with tylenol or the active ingredient Acetaminophen, you should ask his dr if he can take tylenol/Acetaminophen before he takes it. Some people can't have it. I hope I helped.
