Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Well, we got the good news today: My Hubs obtained SVR after participating in a 12 week Clinical Research Trial, over in S.F.
It was an AbbVie Study, and I will copy/pasta a bit about it:

AbbVie's HCV portfolio includes investigational medicines with three different mechanisms of action, including protease (ABT-450/r), polymerase (ABT-333) and NS5A (ABT-267) inhibitors, currently being studied in clinical trials. ABT-450 is being developed with low dose ritonavir which enhances the pharmacokinetic properties of ABT-450. The use of ritonavir 100mg with ABT-450 for the treatment of HCV is investigational.
So yeah, he took those 3 afore mentioned DAA's (ABT-450,333, & 267) along with Ritonivir (an antiviral used on AIDS patients before) and a 1,200 mg daily dosage of Riba.
He was a bit tired, and his HGB dropped by ONE point...and he fussed a bit about that, LOL The reason I say, "LOL" is because my HGB dropped by 5 points (down to 8.8) and I could barely walk, but still shopped and prepared our meals, and did laundry (those 12 stairs up and down to our basement washer/dryer exhausted me!) during my Tx with Victrelis~
So yeah, his Treatment was a huge improvement on mine, and it has been put on " fast-track" by the FDA, so hopefully it will be available for people by 2014!!

I believe they were getting promising results with just the 3 Abbvie drugs- ABT-450, 333 and 267. But what a great way to end the year.

Dr J. Lalezari in San Francisco, at Quest Clinical Trials has a couple new Trials coming up right now, if you happen to live in The Bay Area, or know someone who does, that needs to treat their Hep C, please help me to spread the word about us having easier cures available.
I will be praying for you, Marilyn from Texas, that you get some of these Trial meds ASAP, and your other friend also, who lives near you~
I feel we need to have more Advocacy Programs, aimed at helping people with Hep C get into Treatment, so many lives are at stake as we speak.
I was also very pleased to come back, and find out that Katlanda had SVRed, as I used to worry about you as well. And of course I am eagerly waiting for CatMagic to get her Tx over and done with, and for Hank to be well again also. I see the oxygen in your Avvie, and it saddens me.
And to MeWithHepC, I kind of wish the AbbVie meds were available to you, but I imagine you will be giving the Sofosbuvir a whirl, ASAP in Jan 2014. My only wish/hope is for all of us one by one, to reach SVR-Land.
It is great to have all of the people who have already treated, like ErnieCat and Reminder, and so many others, on here to support and cheer on the Newbies we all need to stick together
