Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I need to treat and get rid of this virus but the only trial currently available for cirrhotics contains interferon and my doc told me this week that I couldn't take interferon again. I was under the influence of drugs so I couldn't ask him why and my husband didn't think to ask him.
If my liver were in good shape I would definitely wait for easier, better drugs to hit the market.
36 days after treatment, I'm about 80% of normal. It's rough going, but totally worth it.
BUT, if your liver is healthy, you could wait for a more effective treatment. At least a dozen are in the pipeline.
Have most of you lost weight during txs?
Some seem to breeze right thru it, no/minimal sides... I had a hell of a time. It IS a personal choice and we all have our own beliefs and reasons if we tx or not.
Now I wait, for a milder, gentler tx w/o interferon.
I don't know and don't want to know what shape my liver is in... as there is NOTHING I could do differently than the way I am living now.
Sometimes, we just need to face our fears and move on and live for today! It is, all we have!
