Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I had to stop treatment & have made the decision, together with 3 GI Doctors and an Infectious Disease Doctor, that I'm not going back on. Here is the shortest I can make the story.
I had taken my 10th shot on April 27th. On Monday, May 2 I got super sick in the wee hours of morning. You can all imagine without hearing the details.
Once my tummy and bowels calmed down a bit my hubby took me to the hospital. I was finally released on Tuesday May 10th.
At first all the docs, and I do mean a bunch of them, thought it was Infectious Diarrhea not related to my Hep-C treatment. Then they thought my Hep-C treatment had lowered my immunity to infection, what with causing me to very Anemic and all.
Then the GI and the ID docs said they had found medical references about the symptoms I had being a side effect that has started to show up in patients around the 10th week or so.
I am recuperating at my sons house. I am using my laptop to type but I can't set it up comfortably, so I'm going to cut this short. I know several of you have sent me PMs, but I am not going to type much more until I can get home and use my old original PS2 keyboard. We have replaced our computer many times since 1990, but that keyboard is still going strong.
I'm not quitting the board!

Get your strength back.
the disease is flooding now and awareness is a must as they are experiencing at this moment.
I'm back to what has been normal for me for the past few years. I can walk around Costco without feeling like I'm going to pass out. Even when I do give in and take a nap I wake up feeling fairly refreshed, unlike the naps I took while on treatment.
I know many others on this board have had to make a similar difficult decision in their treatment. I agree that I haven't given up the fight, but I'm just going to have to wait until there are better weapons available.
Earlier in my treatment I talked about insurance and how fortunate I felt that we have been able to afford a decent policy that covered almost all of my treatment. Now that I am seeing the statements from the hospital and from our insurance I can honestly say it really truely is good coverage.
For the 9 days in the hospital they coverered about $40,000 in various bills and I don't owe anything. Can you imagine how much more it would have been if I had surgery while there or had spent more days in ICU?

It is hard to understand what is going on with your body during these difficult moments on TX.
