portal hypertension

portal hypertension goes hand in hand with cirrhosis usually and i learnt recently that docs are starting to treat this with low dose pegalatedinterferon afpha 2a. although tx for hep c includes pegasys, this is a completely separate issue and tx especially for portal hypertension. it is supposed to reduce the pressure in the portal veins and thus reduce the risk of rupture.
anyone heard of this or doing it at the moment?

A low dosage will ensure the risk of decompensating the liver, is this what it says Pepy???
A kind of maintenance to buy time, I imagine right?

no mckenzie my friend riba is not included and the peg/interferon alpha 2a is only low dose but long term for however long is necessary. it is exactly what you say, a kind of maintenance to buy time and i agree, it does seem to make sense eh.
i am looking into it for sure cos this could give sooooooooo many ppl more time and could be a major breakthrough to help us.
i will keep you informed, be sure of it my friend.
