Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
But I can't live without them. For those who can, best to use them sparingly.
I was always fat as a kid, but in my late 20's I got into bicycle riding, but I was still a party animal. In my early 30's I would shoot cocaine all night, then go out and race mountain bicycles the next morning. I wasn't the fastest, but I was absolutely fearless on the downhills.
I got sober when I was 34 and started exercising like a madman. I competed in some low level races, and even worked in a gym for a while. I was in tremendous shape, my workouts included cycling, running and lifting weights.
But in my mid 40's, fatigue set in. I was always tired, and found it harder and harder to exercise until I quit altogether. I continued to eat like an athlete, and even more to deal with the fatigue and depression. Eventually I found myself to be almost clinically obese, although I still had quite a bit of the muscles from my sporadic weight lifting.
When I finished treatment at the end of July I couldn't walk around the block due to the anemia. I forced myself to start riding my bicycle again at an old man's pace. I ride almost every morning now for an hour, and still lift weights a bit. I've lost over 20 lbs and feel much better.
But the whole point of this is that my concentration has improved dramatically! I have to take a bunch of technical computer based training at work, and even before treatment I could barely sit through it. I'm doing much better now, and I give at least partial credit to my exercise program.
I tell myself every day: Just get up and move your ass!
I leave you with a cool bicycle song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgCqz3l33kU
