Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

It doesn't have anything to do with HCV but it does have something to do with DS. Because of this support group my husband has now joined the RA group. He's one of the rare people that have both RA and gout. After 6 years of the diagnosis of RA, he has finally been able to go to a specialist. During his first appointment the Dr. came up with the conclusion that all he had was gout (just by looking at him). Went so far as to say he would stake his medical license on it! Guess what? He was wrong. Needless to say that was his first and last appointment with him.
Finding a good Dr. is a very important thing.
Finding a good support group is also a very good thing.

So glad your husband is getting the DS support he needs as well!

RA is a tough disease- my Mom has it, and she's had both hips and one knee replaced, looking at the other knee next week.

Prolly easier to find a good support group than to find a good doc:(:( Glad your hubby found DS..hopefully he will get lots of information and support in his group................and he can always visit with us over here:):)

Does your husband have HCV? Just curious because.....I have some experience with the RA thing. I test posative for the RA factor, however I don't have RA. I went to several RA specialists and all agreed that I only carry the marker, not the disease. So they put all my joint pain that I was experiencing down to tendonitis....that is until I had a severe allergic reaction at the dentist. That sent me to an allergist who in turn did some immune testing, and finally sent me to a top notch hemotologist. The hemo guy ran some custom blood tests on me and found out that I have an extra heptic problem( related directly to having Hep C) called cryogobilins that are antibodies circulating in my blood. These wreck havoc with your joints especially when it's cold and/or humid outside. This is a rare thing, but still a couple of us here have it and can attest to the painful jonts that it causes. I'm wondering if he could possibly have the cryo thing as well instead of RA.

@Sarpsis, I tested for high RA factor. When I did tx 2 1/2 yrs ago, I noticed that my arthritus stopped bothering me at a certain point. The rheumatogist I went to said my inflamatory arthritus is associated w/the hep c. When I started feeling the arth pain after stopping tx back then, I got my blood tested and sure enough the virus was back.

He has RA and gout, no HCV. It's very rare to have both. Lucky him. :(

If I get a bad feeling about a doctor due to a combination of ignorance and arrogance I RUN! If I know more than the doctor then I definitely don't need them.
