If you are considering Tx - not drinking is a must if you want a successful outcome.

Now is the time to ask for help of you don't think that you can do it on your own. I like you a lot and don't want to see you hurt your liver.

Well, hells bells! You had an ah-ha moment!!!! Glad u r rethinking drinking. I drank pretty much vodka in the past and honestly, I don't miss it one bit since tx. U r open and talking to us...love it! Hugs~

eyore go hang out in the cirrhosis group for a bit if you want a true scare of what lays ahead for a hepper who continues to drink.

That's smart...at least until you've gone through treatment.

About two months into treatment, I had about 2 ounces of beer, and felt bad for a day and a half. Could have been a coincidence (I had plenty of days like that on Incivek), but it could have been the alcohol interacting with the meds too.

Either way, no more alcohol for this kid until at least six months after treatment...

I'm sorry you had a rough weekend- but I am glad you are rethinking it!! We would like you to stay around a while!! ((HUGS))

My story is similar to yours. I'm also 50, and drank up until I started tx last fall. I did a lot of growing up during treatment, and am so happy for it. I like to think the best days of our lives are ahead of us, not in the past. I used to drink because I was sad, but now I'm fixing the things in my life that made me sad in the first place - a much better approach..

Wishin you all the best Larry! I am a wine lover that had to give it up...missed it a lot while enjoying social circles we hang with...but got used to it and don't even miss it now!...I honestly wanted this treatment so I could hopefully be cured and then be able to drink again...but now I am not so sure that is ever going to be a good idea. Hope it gets easier for you!!! Sending all my willpower your way!!! XO

Good luck eyore...I've fought this battle a thousand times...and ultimately failed every goddamn time. I haven't had a drink in three months since they tested me for drugs/alcohol on my clinical trial. Now that my trial's over I have to rely on sheer will power...

I love your honesty eyeore & that you've learned some important lessons. It's just not worth it, for ourselves or others we may hurt.
I like Jester's answer: the best days of our lives are in front of us. confront what makes us sad, depressed, guilty, insecure, and begin to try to conquer those demons. Let the past lie. think of today as the first day of the rest of your life and look fwd to living life to the fullest, especially when we get healthy & strong again.
I know I'll never take good health for granted ever again & can better sympathize with people who are chronically ill or depressed. We are on this planet to love & help each other.
