Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I just got my results. I'm Geno type 1A. My understanding is that it's the hardest to beat. Who else out there has this type and what are your results with or with out treatment.

Please do not panic, you are in good hands here, you will learn quite a lot, and make friends who are in the same situation you are in.
Both my husband and I were dignosed in 2000, both genotype 1a.
Back then the meds were still in trial stages, so my husband went on a trial study and was cured after his 48 weeks of required treatment for type 1.
As for myself, I waited till the meds were in the pharmacy, and did my 48 weeks of treatment and have been also cured since.
After years of working on knowing this virus and it's treatment, I've come to figure out it's not the genotype that makes the difference here, it's either the patient is a responder or he or she is not.
So when you do treatment and get your 12 weeks first PCR test into treatment, if you are at zero, I mean your viral load, is at zero, it will mean that you are indeed a responder and will be cleared of the virus by the time you finish your journey of 48 weeks.
Did you get a biopsy done yet? if not get one schedual.
You need to know if you have damage to your liver, in order to decide if treatment is an option for you.

I was Genotype 1a as well. I just finished TX and am ND so far. I strated with a VL of 301000 and was ND at 12 weeks.
Good luck with your journey. It gets hard at times but keep your faith and things will work out for you.
