Welcome to DS! I am type 1A too and finished 48 wks of treatment over one month ago. It was rough, but doable. My viral load went from 6 million to undetectable. I go in November to see if the virus is still clear. Best wishes on your journey:)

Hi Lisa, Welcome to Ds, I too as 1A. Did treatment and became undectable 3 months into treatment.. 3 months after treatment it was back. so now I just live my life dealing with hepc. It doesn't run my life anymore, I've learned to do that for myself now. It gets easier to deal with in time.

Hi Lisa...Im 1B which day before yesterday, my doc said they are so close as long as their in the ones..1A or 1 B.. It takes times to get passed this initial shock, but if you do your research on HCV you will be a winner, cuz you will be one up on this disease..We all went thru this, and we all asks questions did research, it isnt the end of the world..I swear!!..Please, stay close to the board, and ask questions... Lisa, I too have 1A. I start treatment in July. DS is LOADED with success stories every day. Fear and worry will make matters worse. You CAN slay the dragon. Prayer, fight and hope is the best medicine. Do your reserach and talk to your dr about treatment.

I'm 1 A I just take shots until the VX950 is approved.

I am also genoytpe 1A. I am in the acute stage with lots of symptoms, but doctors are moving slow. I don't know about treatment yet.

I too was geno type 1a had viral count of 10 million...did 48 wk tx...was undectable within the 2nd month..ended tx in March..still undectable. It was rough but so far I bet the dragon. Good luck...and this website is awesome..you will get alot of support and info.

I am a genotype 1 like you. I started treatment in April and was undetectable at week 12. I started with a viral load of almost 4 million which is considered to be high.(over 2 million is considered high but I have heard of some with 20 million plus viral loads so it is was not real real high)

I am in week 20 right now and am doing o.k. for the most part. It is a little tough some days but with the right attitude and the wonderful people here at DS helping me along it is all totally doable.

I believe us 1's will continue to have sucess beating this and that the odds for us will go up as new meds become available.

Please stay strong and continue to use this wonderful sight...the people here are all so great at helping ya out.

oh ya...and if ya can...try not to panic anymore...it will all be o.k. my friend.

Virtually all Hep C positives in North America are 1A. It's called the North American Strain versus 1B which is alluded to as the European strain

i had type A. i went through the 48 week interferon and viral pill treatment which ended in january 2006. i just had my 1-1/2 year blood work done last week and the results were no viral load. i don't have to be re-tested for another 5 years.

70 percent of American who has HCV is genotype 1a so you have plenty of company. With some of the New Drugs coming out now you have a better chance to beat this. My went up from 45 to 85% and you can read my journal to find out more. Good Luck and God Bless

I was in a panic, too, when I first found out my diagnosis. Especially since I have no idea how I got it (never used IV drugs). My tx starts in October as part of a study. I'm nervous but I know it's the right thing to do. Your first step is to find the best liver specialist that you can and schedule a biopsy (your doc will want this). The biopsy will tell you the extent of scarring to your liver from the disease (stage 0 none-4 worst). I am stage 2. The doc considers this when he recommends tx or not. Regardless of biopsy results, tx is the ONLY way to get rid of the disease (50-55% cure rate). Keep us posted on your progress and take one step at a time. Stay strong and stay positive and you will get through this like all of us. Hugs.

hi lisa314, i'm a oneA too. started treatment six weeks ago. just got back a viral load test saying the viral load is now zero. so, even though oneA is the most difficult to beat as you can see from the responses here on this site, many of us are having positive outcomes. i was having an awful time with the treatment side-effects and even thinking about quiting but now i'm dancing like a crazy squirrel. so happy and cheered to know that the treatment is working for me, a type one-A. now, i feel encouraged to continue on for the next year with treatment. feel positive that no matter what happens i can beat this. and so can you. and this site has helped me to get through these first six weeks. without everyone on here i don't think i could have done it. thanks. i love you all.
