Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Has anyone completed Sovaldi and Olysio and had a relapse and the virus returned? Just wondering if anyone was non-detected and after treatment became detected again on these new meds. I have 2 more months to go before my 3 month blood work after completing treatment with Sovaldi and Olysio. I'm praying I'm still non detectable by then. Just a little worried.
I was labelled as relapsed rather than failed in my clinical trial. It's semantics. For me the word relapse implies you got sick again after being cured which is different from failed tx, but the terms are used loosely. Very few docs do even test VL at 2 weeks because it it is meaningless.
On long and difficult txs in the past, testing VL was important to predict success or failure of tx, so it could be stopped and not continue to subject patients to harsh side effects if it wasn't working. But with shorter easier txs most docs are not testing VL till EOT.

I remember my Hepatologist recommending that I try inf/riba alone first for acute HCV (1a, TT) as I could take them again if I failed. She then said if it was her that she would do it. Well it worked and thank God as is never take those two again for HCV tx. I say for HCV as they use inf for some cancer therapy. Would have to cross that ridge then but I don't have cancer today!! :-D
I hate cancer.
Anyway, I hope you can still take Sovaldi if needed Paul. Some HIV drugs you cannot retake if you have an adverse reaction as people have died from that. Trial and error of course. Those people paid a dear price.
There was a patient here before who claimed to have relapsed at least twice after SVR. They were on chronic inf tx at a low dose and also had a liver txp. Who knows?! Anyway, there's a reason to make the drugs affordable so all can treat. There is a proper price point for certain after the initial raping and pillaging of humanity occurs as is the pharmaceutical way. Then again research, innovation and invention are costly just like divorce. Anywhoo, . . .
Yep, ya gotta just try the new stuff. But I am so sorry to hear this.
To me, I would not call it a relapse unless you were totally clear at some point. hard to know how docs are using the terminology.
