H1N1 jabs plan 'poses infection risk'

A planned national swine flu vaccination could lead to an outbreak of blood-borne diseases, infectious diseases experts say.

The warning comes after federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon announced on Thursday that the government would release the first batch of swine flu vaccine, supplied by CSL, within weeks.

The Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases, in a letter to Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer Jim Bishop, expressed concern about CSL's use of multi-dose vials for the vaccination.

Fairfax newspapers said the letter, from the society's president, Associate Professor Tom Gottlieb, urged the government to postpone the vaccinations until single-dose vials became available.

While the risk was slight, use of the larger multi-dose bottles could transmit infectious if syringes and needles were reused, "resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality", the letter said.

"Many members are concerned that there is a risk of adverse outcomes if a mass vaccination campaign was conducted using multi-dose vials," it said.

There was no guarantee stringent infection-control guidelines would be followed in hospitals, "let alone clinics and general-practice units in the community", the letter said.

But Professor Bishop said the government's pandemic plan had always included the use of multi-dose vials because they were more efficient and could be distributed more quickly.

PS: my personal opinion, I don't know how Canada will proceed with this vaccination, if they will have individual viles per person, or the same as what the US are planning to use, larger multi-dose bottles.

Either way, my daughter is forbidden to take any vaccinations for the H1N1 or the flu shot.

I am a member of the Guillian Barre Syndrome, and I have posted an article that tells the prople that the both te H1N1 and flu vacccin could trigger the GBS illness.

For those who don't know what the GBS illness is, it's a syndrome that attacks the nerves of a person, which paralyses the patients after getting the a shot to prevent flu or other lungs disease.

A couple of years ago now, my father in law, paralysed from the waste down, and was transported to the Ottawa Civic Hospital, where he was diagnosed iwth GBS. When my mother in law called me before he was diagnosed, to tell us that he had been hospitalized, she gave me the symptoms, which I looked up on the internet for her, she knows I am a active on medical sites, and the little bit of information she gave me, I had found right away what he would be diagnosed with, and when I asked if he had the flu shot not long ago, sure enough he had had the flu shot a week before he paralyzed.

This is a life time disease, if your lucky with a lot of therapy you can maybe make progress over the next 30 years, yes 30 years.

I have met members in the GBS community, who contracted it from a shot given to them for lung problems, and they were 5 years old, and today at 35 year old she is getting a little better, and is learning to walk again.

So don't be in such a rush people to get those flu shots, and H1N1 shots. I know that we are totally against it, and my daughter will not be vaccinated this year or any other year to come.

If you have a chance, go visit the GBS community, it is so sad to see these peole afraid of falling asleep in case the paralization expands to their lungs.
I know by seeing my father in law, a man who was very active, hunting, travelling, in great shape, and to have his life cut down just because of a shot supposebly safe to the public, yea right.
