Going to Rehab

I know a few of you might have been worrying about me lately because i somewhat disappeared. A week ago i went on a binge and i was also taking Vicodin alot of it. I was actually on my way to rehab on the 29th when i told the driver i wasn't feeling good. So we went to the ER and it wound up being i was having an acetaminophen overdose......I know not very smart for someone that has Hep C. Anyway i went through 5 days of Hell taking the medication to save my life, They don't believe theres any further damage to my liver, but future tests will tell. Anyway I'm going away to rehab tomorrow and maybe a halfway house after that so i don't know when i'll be back on line. I don't know what time there coming for me yet but i'll check back in as long as I can. Wish me luck in my future endeavors. Thanks everybody for the support you have already given me in the past. If I don't get help now I'M GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!

Hey man...wishing you much success, sincerely. And remember, it is not necessary to find god, recite prayers and affirm daily that you are powerless. Many have gotten sober without it.

For those interested in alternatives to AA...look into SMART Recovery. It's recovery for the more intellectually minded, based on REBT and Albert Ellis's teachings. It's about developing tools to empower oneself and how our thoughts, which are just words, affect our actions. It is the antithesis of AA. He's be appalled by people using all the negative self talk, convincing themselves daily that they are powerless. Well, just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone interested. I know most of the devout AA followers would not be and that is quite all right.

There are many different philosophies and AA / NA work for many but are not for everybody. Good to know the options as there are successes in a variety of settings and with different theoretical orientation. Hope you find something that works for you.

Good for you Larry. There's a better life ahead for you. God bless you. He changed my life. I used to drink & use drugs too. I'm really happy now, and you will be too, whatever route you take. Just stick with it, not easy, but doable.

Wow, What can i say. Thanks for all the support, I surely need it. All you guys are such a great family. Been very busy today getting laundry done, getting logistics taken care so my bills get paid and getting packed and so on. Hopefully i'll only be away from the computer for 30 or so days. So as soon as I get back you guys will be the first to know. I think there picking me up about 2:30 tomorrow eastern time so i might be on alittle tomorrow. Keep in touch whenever u can..... reach for that light.... Every day will get easier after the 1st few..... U CAN DO THIS!!! No bed of roses in the beginning...but the rest of ur life will be !!!!

Well today is the big day.I'm alittle bit scared, I don't like change and i certainly don't like to go to far from my home nest, never have. Shit i'm only going to be 2 hours away from my home. I'm such a big baby, thats king baby actually. For those who might be interested i'll be at Whitedeer run, 360 whitedeer run rd. allenwood Pa.17810 Its Bear country there in the beautiful scenic mountains just south of williamsport Pa. I want to say again thanks for everybodys love and support. I am so Grateful to be apart of this community even tho I'm not on treatment yet, but i'm waiting for the better stuff that will be coming out. Thanks again to all. Larry Kiesel.

Sounds like you're going to be in a beautiful setting for your healing. Don't be afraid. It's a new & wonderful journey your about to start..and the beginning of all kinds of possibilities. A new way of thinking is a new way of life. Things look different, feel different, and ARE different.
It's nice to wake up and look forward to the new day. When you've been down long enough, it seems incredible & amazing that you CAN wake up each day in a happy state of mind & look forward to the day.

Keep this in mind, especially if the going gets tough. ITS ALL TRUE - I know for a fact.

I don't know anyone who likes change.... Do you?
I didn't like it, and I still don't. But I go with it anyway, because what I liked and wanted or didn't like or want to do is what got me to where I was 4 1/2 years ago....a mess & off to saving my life, just like you.

You will be in great hands. I hear great things about White Deer Run, a friend of mine went to York College and was in their York PA facility.... And he's still sober!!!!!

Safe travels and even if you cannot communicate with us or we cannot communicate with you, for whatever reason..... Please KNOW we all will be thinking of you...... And thinking good thoughts. I'll be in touch!

Larry, I am so thrilled to hear that you are taking the first step to change your life and it is YOUR decision. How awesome! Whatever treatment center you go to and wherever you find your support can only bless you more! As great as a support member as you have been on DS, I know you will be to those with you in treatment! I always hated change, but 30 years ago, I realized that if I didn't give sobriety a chance, I was going to DIE one way or the other so it seems that you have come to the same turning point! I will be praying for you and looking forward to your next posts.
