During my first round of tx I had a routine eye check at the 4th week and they found "cotton wool spots" on my retina. He called the Gasto MD who immediately took me off TX. After doing some research on-line I read that this was fairly common with interferon and it usually goes away during tx. My Gastro did not want to do this and I saw a Hepatologist who told me that they treat right through the problem. So six months later I restarted tx. The retinal problem had resolved from the tx but once I started tx again it did recurr. I had retinal exams every 3 months and it did resolve. After tx I had to get stronger glasses but then I had to get stronger glasses after each pregnancy too. The red itchy eyes is from dryness. I used restasis but it did nothing. I had my lower tear ducts plugged and use eye drops during the day and ointment at bedtime. Can also get upper ducts plugged but oped not to do that at this time. Should get retinal exam with photos before tx starts and if develop retinal problem be followed close. I was surprised that the Gastro doc or hep doc never mentioned this possible side effect.

I think ongoing eye exams should be part of tx monitoring as well as blood work.
My eyes were so dry , did I say dry? I meant DRRRRRRRRRY!
I had to constantly use artificial tears. Around the 10th week I developed a floater from hell that blacked out my lower right vision.
I was worried it was retinal but was pulled off tx anyway for other reasons.
Pay very close attention to your eyes. My vision is only coming back a bit now.

My recently diminished night vison can be attributed to the development of cataracts. I have come by these things honestly, i.e., I never wear a hat or sunglasses, and that is one way to encourage them; they also come with age. My vision has gotten worse generally, too. HCV irratating the tiny capillaries in the eyeball most likely...gonna plant parsley this spring time.. hahaha...it really is good stuff!

new at this.started tx in april of 09.did tx for 6 mos.started losing vision in right eye bottom part.doc.started procret and then started something for my red blood cell. after three wks. of this.all txs stopped after that .that's been 15 mos. ago.now right eye a little better but my left side ,bottom part dead due to dead nerve ends caused swelling of the optic nerve. so nealytee hope this doesn't happen. the name of this condition is called papilledema. I was told that this doesn't happen to many people. the doc said he had never seen it before. Hope you do OK with treament.
