I can't see Harvoni surviving this in the U.S.

"Express Scripts said that starting Jan. 1, 2015, it would only pay for the AbbVie drug for patients who have genotype 1. Express Scripts will no longer cover Harvoni, a one-pill treatment for patients with genotype 1 that costs $94,500 for a 12-week course.

It will cover Sovaldi in cases where patients have other types of the disease."

Isn't Express Scripts a pharmacy? Doesn't insurance cover the meds & Express Scripts fill them? I don't know. BC/BS recently added Harvoni to their formulary. Let the pricing wars begin!

I am on BCBS Oklahoma and they use Prime Therapeutics. Thank goodness. I am on my 2nd bottle of Harvoni and will have 4 more refills after that.

I have BC/BS of MI Medicare Advantage PPO. My specialty pharma is Axium. I will receive my last month of Harvoni tomorrow. My insurer is not paying Gilead's retail price of $95k. My ins. is paying a total of $45k for 12 wks of Harvoni. I think this is the beginning of negotiations but it's not fair that people who use Express Scripts may be denied until details are hammered out. No geno 1s should have to have riba in the cocktail IMHO.

I just looked at our BCBS account online and they paid $31,000+ for each month of Harvoni. So total cost will be over $180,000.

Tulsa, your ins is paying retail? I double checked my prescription coverage & ins was billed $31k but they paid $15k & my out of pocket cost was $36.21 per month. Your BCBS didn't get a good deal but at least you are covered. Hope you are doing well with Harvoni.

Hey Allaboutliving,

I think Tulsa Gal (Yey!!! You're on your way dear!) is on a 24 week regimen because of her previous attempts and the condition of her liver which I sure hope is improving for her.

I believe the total for her tx is gonna be $186,000.00 for 24 weeks @ $31,000.00 per month. In any event, I'm just gonna stay positive for all of you who are on tx and for those who are waiting and of course to those like myself who have finally made it to the promised land. God Bless All of You.
