Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hi everyone-
My husband went in today to see the second doctor (heptologist) and he really liked this one which was a huge relief. Anyways he got the results of most of his bloodwork and his ultrasound. He has genotype 1a. They noticed in his ultrasound that his spleen was slightly enlarged. I guess 10cm is on the large size of normal and his was 12cm. The rest of his bloodwork came back good. We cut his liver enzyme counts in half which was also good. They did a fibros scan (?) and he scored a 7.5. I guess above ten is a grey area and past 15 is not good.
So now its biopsy time! His doctor will be doing the biopsy. Does anyone know what this enlarged spleen is about? The doc said he could just have a large one but it worries me. I looked it up online and it looks scary. He also said that he sees 65-70% cure rate with genotype 1a. Anyone want to shed some light? Thank you.
