Well, only way I could tx before Jan. 2014 is triple tx, and that ain't gonna happen. The cost of the new tx is for sure a concern - our insurance (or in my case, healthcare provider) has to be willing to pay the big chunk (after reducing the "acceptable" max amount a WHOLE lot). I just wish I could get into a trial. But I had best forget about that, given my circumstances - I can't relocate to where trial centers are (don't have the $$$$), and they are ALL way far from where I live. We certainly can't afford all the travel required (by AIR) for me to "commute".

I just pray that these new drugs are out next year for Gen 1's. I'm not real confident about that - I try to be, but I'm just not. I often read "a few years", and that gets me down. I know I don't have that long as PROBABLY I am an early stage 3, and I'm 66 now. Oh, those damn two biopsies that were so different, and now the hep'tologist says HE doesn't know what stage I am - gee, a I, a II or an early III - isn't THAT helpful - not.

Cat... it's a tax because if you don't buy it, you get a tax.

Prices should come down with the insurance demand and supply in balance.

If you're on Medicare, you don't have to buy the insurance.

And.... everything DOES happen for a reason, for sure. I almost did triple, for example, would have started a year ago, but the doctor who was pushing it was an a/hole - lol. No way would I have treated with him in charge. Creeped me out plus didn't have a lot of experience with us heppers. Then I found this forum and began to educate myself about triple tx - and WHOA BABY, no way this little kitty is gonna take that sh*t, which was then confirmed (do NOT take I'feron) by another doc.

Thanks Cat, really good info. I remember you almost tx-ing, SO glad you did Not! My Docs said I could start after the Polycythemia was under control. I'm like, No Way.. Not interferon or RIBA, I'd end up on the news for something illegal, surely. ill keep fingers crossed for all of us naiveies.

I count my blessings that I got on this trial and that i have good coverage but my herat breaks for all who don't.

The price of a liver transplant is three times the price of Sofosbuvir and then ongoing expenses of maintenance drugs.
They paid a billion dollars just for the molecule and then add on the millions for development, marketing, production, liability insurance, dividends and profit.
Modern science is not cheap

And all of the taxpayers have subsidized these big pharma's for them to start up their research...

Kind of like the cable TV companies who were first subsidized by taxpayers revenues to the government and once they became independent and making profits from different revenue streams, they have continued to raise their rates just so they could satisfy their investors and all in the name of one word everybody!
