Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Most folks with health livers can tolerate a beer or two a day without much problem.
But HCV damages the liver. So the real question is: To what extent is your liver damaged, and how much risk are you willing to take?
Personally, I don't drink because I'm a recovering alcoholic, and I also have stage 3-4 fibrosis. With that said, I also know cheeseburgers are bad for me, but I eat at least one a week because I love them.
Some here do drink after treatment, and many others don't feel it is worth the risk. The choice is up to you, but I always suggest asking your doctor as well.
I just learned about the cheeseburgers?? I have to do some research here, plus talking to my doc next visit.
I know that if I eat healthy, I feel better and alcohol is a big NO-NO for many due to other reasons too.
We treated around the same time with the same tx. We are both SVR...Yay!!!!
I am going to chime in with my 2 cents. My doc said wine once in a while will not hurt. I already had a glass. My niece is getting married in 2 weeks, and I will have a glass then, too.
Being hepc free is truly a deep inside happy fuzzy feeling!!!
Good luck!
