Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
The moment we all wait for.... My first dose of RIBA and sovaldi. I took it this morning at 830. I didn't want to sit around wondering if the sides would hit me. Lol. So, I made the beds, did the dishes and got myself and my two year old dressed. I wanted to get out of the house and start the day. We went grocery shopping and then we played outside for a bit before lunch. I'm drinking water constantly. I hear that's a huge factor w feeling well on the meds. I feel fine so far! I will post as I go! And I just want to say thanks to all of you just for being here! Day 1!!! Here we go!
Had to come here and chime in. I am on the triple Sol+Peg+Riba. The riba was 400 in the am and 400 in the pm. My last day of this tx will be this Thursday, the 2nd!
Honestly you can do this!!!! I was sooo scared cuz of the sides ppl were experiencing. Then I read mwgoforth's post who was also doing the same tx as me and remarked that there were virtually no sides. Hmmmmmm, I thought, I am on this dreaded Peg shots and Riba. I waited for these sides to hit me.
The first month or so, I experienced just a few times what seemed like insects were crawling under my skin here and there. I used my imagination and said that was my Hep C running away from the riba, but the riba was attacking and winning. I had absolutely no muscle aches or flu symptoms.
The second half of treatment I felt like my body was filled with Riba (sorta like getting up from Thanksgiving dinner and not being able to move). Sometimes I felt lethargic, but maybe an hour here and there. It was not a total washout that day. I also experienced breathlessness, like running up a flight of stairs too quickly. But that, too, was a here and there feeling.
No one other than my family knows that I am on this tx. And guess what??? My friends whom I see frequently have no clue. I was even scared of losing hair. I didn't. As a matter of fact, my hair has always been thin, and I already have new hairs growing in.
And now I will be finishing Thursday. Would I do it again???

The best part: I started at 13million VL. Quest did the 4th week lab on me by mistake during the first week of tx. They had standing blood work orders from my doc. She looked at wrong date and proceeded with that. So we got a pleasant unexpected surprise. My VL was 104 that first week!!!!! Thank you, God!!!!!
