It makes you very emotional. I thought I was the
toughest SOB!! But I was on a roller coaster ride
when TX-ing. I cried often. You need to check out
some type of anti-depressant. I didn't, but wish I
did. After I was done, my doc asked how I was
feeling. My wife was there and told him. He put
me on celexa. After a couple days I woke up one
morning happy & had more energy. I stayed on it
for a few months. When I thought I was getting
depressed, it was like whatever. Were here for you
no matter what. Stay positive, drink that water. Try
and live, laugh & love!!
Take care,
Oz
But, I am laughing more, crying less, and have a little more energy to do regular stuff around the house. Not that I cannot cry, or get knocked down by HCV fatigue. Seems I go grocery shopping one day and the next day I am exhausted and my legs feel like jello that didn't solidify!
My doctor recommended celexa, but I asked for zoloft seeing how it worked for my mother some 20 years ago. If you have any questions, just ask.
Here's is a file that might help you and your doctor/insurance decide. Scroll down to page 11/12 to see what might be right for you to try first, then next, if necessary. Hope this helps :)

On tx with INF and Riba, depression is almost a given for any and everyone. It's not stupid to feel that way - it's the DRUGS that cause it. Feel better; talk to your doc, okay?
Okay, my first 3 weeks on Interferon, I cried ALL THE TIME...and I am oneof those "tough/emotionless people, who has gone thru hard times, like losing a baby, doing time in jail, etc.
But what made me cry were silly things, like sentimental songs, and t.v. commercials. Also, when I went to this one cafe, a few mornings a week, while waiting for my eggs (dining alone) my tears would fall, uncontrollably, and it was embarrassing.
But since I didn't feel depressedotherwise, I found the phenomena kindof fascinating, in a scientific kind of a way. For this reason, I didn't classify it as true depression, but simply a side effect, from the Interferon.
Now....at 4 weeks, I found out I was Undie, and the tears stopped!!! I have this weird theory, that it is our bodies' way of mourning the loss of it's old cohort, and partner in crime: The Hep C virus~
But guess what? It's bye bye birdy for yr Hep C virus, it's probably all ready a Goner! Psy meds take at least 3 weeks to take hold, and at that point you will have 7 more weeks to go~ since I have never taken psych meds, such as antidepressants, I cant give you any advice on wether you should trythem. My daughter suffers from Bipolar 1, which was triggered when she was a teen, by the DFr prescribing Prozac. Itis rly dangerous to go on a Antidepressant if there is any family history of Bipolar...as the SSRI's tend to send a person into MANIA!!!
I am always a lil bit hypermanic so when I was able to sleep, 4 hrs after the Inf shot set in, the nap time was delicious! I made sure to walk my dog twice a day, and go out for coffee and other treats. Pamper yourself.
If your depression feels like this: completely hopeless, suicidal thoughts, difficulty getting out of bed...then there may be a psych drug that helps...but I am very wary of the Antidepressants, because I have seen many people go manic on them
