Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I am a pretty happy go lucky type of guy but after reading the signs and symptoms it's not that I ever had suicidal thoughts but all the other things I did and still do have from treatment.
Makes me wonder if we really understand what depression really is?
If I do treatment again I think I might not be so quick to dismiss some help. Antidepressants may have helped reduce my hard time with peg/riba.
Just a thought for everyone.
I refused AntiDs and am glad I did. I am not saying it wasn't a hard ride without them...we are all familiar with ups and downs during tx, but think that last weeks and 2 months post tx were worst for me... talk about hitting the rock bottom... :((
...but then again, there are a lot of cons for taking antiDs...they do change brain chemistry, it's hard to stop taking them post tx... all meds help but affect sth else...
...dunno Mo, just my thought on the subject...not trying to go against the windmills here, and I know a lot of folks will disagree with me...but this what I think on the subject...
If I do tx again I may consider trying then.
when first I started treatment.
At 8 week I started taking anti D
By that time I had all the signs of depression.
Yes I did thing about suicide a lot.
As for anxious, yes I was seeing and hearing thing that
was not going on.
The anti Depressant help some no more thought of suicide.
But by the last to months of TX I was back to seeing and hearing thing.
By 3 months post TX I was off the anti depressants.
I'm doing Ok .
Good question.
Real depression is a chemical imbalance - well, the current definition that we accept is that, at least.
So we 'treat' that imbalance with other chemicals....hoping to stuff their receptors full so the body's natural hormones can't stick.
blablabla...anyway, doesn't it all remind you of this?
"Give a man a fish...feed him for a day
Teach him how to fish...feed him for a lifetime."
Our bodies are amazing and can heal most things if we supply them with the nutrients to work better and stronger.
When we take chemicals that our bodies make, we tell our body to quit bothering with making them......in other words, we feed our body for a day instead of letting it work better on it's own and we actually make ourselves dependent on the handout and we forget how to make it naturally.
All drugs are chemicals and all chemicals are broken down in the liver, and for hep c people - the liver doesn't work as efficiently and so the chemicals build up and create a toxic overload.
I never take all the prescription that my doctor orders. Call me an outlaw!
But I know that my liver doesn't work like it used to, and so I usually take half a pill when two per day are prescribed.
that's just me.
but my friend just died from hep c, and would NOT cut down on the lasix (which none of us should be taking - we should take spirolactone instead), so her kidneys shut down and the toxins built up. Of course, all was blamed on the Hep C - no mention that perhaps she had been over medicated...............................
just be careful. We all like you.
p.s.
That's one of the reasons you can never just quit taking anti-depressives - your body cannot start making the natural stuff that it has now quit making, fast enough to avoid a crash.
(sounds like what will happen when the fossil fuel runs out, and we aren't ready...)
You know crying is one way to naturally rid yourself of excess serotonin - the chemical that anti-depressives block; so when they analyzed tears in the 90's, it was found tears contain high levels of serotonin. So, as weird as it might sound - crying it out really is 'crying it out.'
Oh, and it's ok for men to cry :)
You are important to us.
