I wonder what their condition was before the treatment? I think there is always a risk with cirrhosis. At least that is what my Dr. told me. "slight chance it will make my condition worse". I decided I wanted more quality of life, if it can be achieved. Although I am on solvaldi/riba.

The health ministry said Friday three people have died after taking the hepatitis C drug Sovriad, and it has ordered the distributor to revise the drug packaging to say usage should stop when indicated by a patient blood test.
Who or what is Sovriad ? is that a mispell ? I hope they didnt mismark the labels either for those patients....gotta watch em... they will cut off the wrong leg...

I was advised before I started Olysio (Galexos up here) that there was a possibility of rises in bilirubin around week eight. If that happened they would have to stop treatment. It didn't happen and I am SVR 12.
It's part (or supposed to be) standard treatment protocol on this drug to monitor for the occurrence.

ps..On that global post of S & O....who is the HEALTH MINISTRY ? that sounds kinda evasive and indirect unless it is a legal organization...that is not the FDA?? no ??

I'm certainly not minimizing fatal reactions to any medication, but as Mary eluded to, overall medical condition may have been very serious when treatment commenced. Patients may have died anyway. If only the sickest are getting these new meds, then we can assume they were in serious health.
I hope it wasn't a direct result from the drug, but more an interaction or domino effect.

Ya know been thinkin...danger danger....anyway , why all of a sudden do we hear of this terrible news about the 3 that died of Olysio..combo?? it has been a year, YES ?? for FDA approval of Olysio...could it be that the breakout of new meds is fighting to keep first place under the bright lights of fame ???

I like to be realistic and always remember:

For the Drug Companies: This is a HUGE money maker for them.
They took the risks on the research and NOW, amazing my doctor told me in December the success rate of Sovaldi was 99%, actually they said they had no patients that did not SVR.

That I found very hard to believe, and so did he - so that is when I knew the money was and is their MAIN focus.

In some respects it is good that they are finally researching drugs for us, however, it sure would help to know the real truth.
I knew going in that I had to be a guinea pig - the ones that died, I wonder what their "liver status" was (but still feel terrible for their families) . I have a friend's wife that took
interfeuron after her 2nd liver transplant and that interfeuron brought her white blood cells so low that she developed pneumonia and died..
So sad as her 3 kids thought "the 2nd liver" was the miracle.....

Was it a bad or contaminated batch?

Did these 3 people have compromised kidneys to begin with??

The "report" leaves more questions than answers.
