I don't even know that Louie! All I know is the dr. called me and told me I tested positive for hep c. On the phone, no less. I had to have gotten it in the 80's, so I'm guessing I'm chronic. Naive. Naive. Naive. I'm scheduled for the end of June, first of July for Liver Specialists of Texas, Dr. Gati. Med records got faxed to them today. I don't know shit. I wish I did.

bago- I'm on a trial. You have to find out which trial you'll be on and then do your research. If you're interested I will send you links and info - I'm the queen of clinical trials research.

Everyone throws around the idea of getting on trials here like it's nothing. But trials can be dangerous. You have to know which trial and then decide if it makes sense. I wouldn't even have considered most trials.

Yes as Kat said be sure you know what trial and whate phase you are cosgning up for. Most phase 1 are a waste ot time for the participant. Placebos and little focus on success. More data gathering. I would not cosider anything less than phase 2.

ok like u said they want u're medical records....past tx's so forth,,have u had a biopsy? or fibrescan..whatever they require..they'll go over u're medical records then say yea or nay and give u a call.....u go in for labs ekg and physical then they will decide..then if u get the green light then u're in like flint............records 1st and i have controlled blood pressure.........

oh yea mine has no placebos..i told them i've treated twice no placebos for me..make that clear,,u want the real deal..the tx.yea what phase mine is 2...close to the market..

No placebos. What a waste of time. No phase one. Phase 2 at least. Haven't had the biopsy, they said they would do that. I think I found it on clinicaltrials. It's a full time job looking for all this. My Dr. didn't do anything.

definitely a job,,u have to search and follow through u're self............yes indeed......no bodies going to knock on u're door and say hey u want to be cured of hepc i have tx.for u..no u must deligently seek u're self...amen.

I lucked up. Was referred to a Hep doc who has a small Liver Study Clinic in addition to his practice. When I told him I was going to lose my ins., he said "we'll get you on a Trial". Was turned down for a Trial on the Triple (so glad) last yr. then 3 mo. later, offered the Abbott Trial.

Yes, make sure its at least a Phase 2b.
Try to get an open label (they give you lab results as they come in). That wasn't a deal breaker for me but it was very good to know what my VL, AST/Alt, etc. was every week.
Abbott (or at least my Abbott Trial) paid for everything, including a biopsy if you hadn't had one in the past 3 yrs. They did a through screening, physical, EKG, extensive history, blood work. They were willing to "invest" in me which was somewhat comforting.
They do a long follow up. 48 wks. I go for my last Lab in August.
Is the Study staff good? Respectful,pleasant, professional?? Do they invite and answer all questions?? Can you contact them 24/7 (I had my Trial Nurse's cell #).
Most Trials offer a small stipend to cover gas (mine was $40 pr visit and it really helped as the Clinic was abt 80 mi round trip). It was paid quarterly.
Yes, its scary putting "unknowns" into your body but...Interferon scared me more and I had started to deteriorate rapidly from the other diseases/conditions Hep was causing. My quality of life was getting so poor, I was willing to take the risk. I guess that's the main thing, does the possible outcome outweigh the risk? That is a very individual thing.
