I'm wondering .... I heard there was a certain genotype that Harvoni treats...can anyone tell me? I am not able to treat with interferon...

Not that I knew of. I think it treats all of them.

The harvoni site says >HARVONI is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic (lasting a long time) hepatitis C genotype 1, 4, 5 or 6 infection.<

It also says >SOVALDI is a prescription medicine used with other antiviral medicines to treat chronic (lasting a long time) hepatitis C genotype 1, 2, 3, or 4 infection in adults

I heard the same as Trissa mostly geno 1,4 , which are common in North America
For Geno'2,3 in Canada only Sovaldi /Riba is used .
I am sure there are exceptions out there as well
I know very little of the less common geno's like like 5,6,Etc

I tried the Harvoni treatment last summer and while the results were initially positive and I showed cleared at the end of treatment. However at the 3 month double check the virus is back again. It was the same with the treatment before that. Have been thru treatment 4 times so I've been there. According to my Hep C person, my genotype I think 4A is not compatable with one of the drugs in Harvoni. I Know this, because there is a new treatment coming out and they wanted to check and see if was compatable with my genotype. and it's not. After thinking about it they decided to give treatment a try anyway. As long as my liver functions are still in the good range. I think we are going by the throw enough stuff against the wall something might eventually stick. Sorry, short answer yes some genotypes are not compatable.

I am sorry Gk ,I am sure you will hang in there I just finished Harvoni 24 wks ,How long did you take it ,this was my 4th Tx as well .Praying for all this seems to me to be a dirrect from the Higher Power God Bless

I am not an expert. I have heard and actually started on a tx that was suppose to be better with the other option of daclatasvir-sofosbuvir-ribavirin. I have heard great things about this combination. Each person is different and tx has different affects on different genotype. I actually have genotype 1a and 3a and have HIV so my case u have more of a challenge. I would go on line read everything you can. Wishing you well.

I have read and heard that harvoni does NOT cure all genomes.
