Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I only ask this as I have NO IDEA ( thanks a lot doc!!) where I stand in this treatment journey, as to whether it's working or not, and it's starting to make me a little bit crazy. What if? What if I am part of that unlucky 5% of gen2b who won't clear? It crosses my mind as I am also in that group of (what experts believe) is low risk people to have even contracted HCV. I am trying to stay positive and focused, and know it's pointless to stress about it, but thoughts keep creeping in the closer I get to the end, not knowing if my VL has even fallen yet at 8 weeks, much less go undie.
I can't recall reading here where the new treatments have failed anyone so far. Is that correct?

Forewarned is forearmed. I have spent the last 7 weeks grappling with this stuff - and am still not quite believing I'm undetected. I try to forget about it - stop analyzing - believe my nurse ... but .... as I said, mine was the first EVER VL report that I saw that did not indicate detected or undetected.
OT here - in FL labs cannot make results available to patients; has to come from the Dr. Wasn't thrilled with another control of residents of FL. Wish we could get them on line. We have to make an appt w/Dr just for results. Guess I'll be happy I will get 4wk VL @ week 6.
DRT things did work out for you! Like gerbils, we have to follow a convoluted maze but we'll all get the cheese in the end. :)
However, you shouldn't have to actually go see your doc for results - wouldn't the nurse call you if you asked her to? Just remember - if you are having quants done - it takes a good 10 days for results. Do ask your nurse what kind she is ordering (qual or quant).
I got my 4 week VL results online late on a Friday afternoon - can you IMAGINE - when I saw that "less than 2 IU/mL" thing? I was frantic. Had to wait until Monday to call the nurse. STILL not satisfied. So I can see why some labs don't put results online - we patients can get all wrapped around the axle seeing them before our doctor has a chance to "translate" them.
I understand that it is disappointing not to see UNDIE, but less than 2 is just as good as undie!! and 4 weeks is just too early...
I bet they could deep fry that in the South.
This is something people do not understand. Regulations are different in different states. Federal recommendation is applied at state level as state sees fit.
Now, I call the office a few days in advance and "ask" them to have copies ready for me when I come in for my appointment.
