I don't know much about trials , but why choose a trial with interferon while you have another one that has less side effects.

I think you should avoid interferon as long as you have another option.

12 weeks is a very viable option. Remember, there always is the placebo arm. Keep this in mind.

Interferon will be around and used for many years tocome. It is used in the tx of non-hodgkins lymphoma and melanoma...

bagolady - you said this is "open label" which by definition means NO PLACEBO so that is not an issue, and no need to keep it in mind.

In the Atomic (phase II) study with GS-7977 + Interferon + Ribavirin
for tx naive, GT 1, 90% achieved SVR12. This sounds very promising to me. Actually, this would have been my trial of choice, over the one I currently did.

I would definitely choose this one, but that's just my personal opinion based on the research I've done.

I have misspoken.

I intended to infer the use of Inf in the Electron trial, which IS open label. this is the one I Googled. The placebo was intended to say there IS inf being used.... Get out the ruler, my knuckles are ready.
Next time I will go to Clinical Trials. Gov as I always do....

When I posted the first trial that did not have interferon in it, I believe that Kat said I couldn't do another tx if it failed... Not sure about that. Not too crazy about the trial with interferon, but it is only for 3 months. What I'm really wondering about is why this was suggested to me from the trial coordinator in the first place. I'm assuming it has to do with the date I told them I would be in Houston, but I'm not sure. It's phase 3 as opposed to the 2b first one. Maybe trying to get it pushed through?

Bago, I think it's all about space w/in the trial. I feel sure that the non-interferon trials will fill up fast. That is, if/when they get the meds. in...she told me they had not been able to get them yet.

I didn't say you couldn't treat again if you failed. I said "you will never be able to treat again with Incivek or Victelis and currently those are the only treatments that are approved. You could obviously try just SOC or something new when it comes along."

I feel like such a dumb ass when it comes to this whole subject of hep c. Lemme see if I got this right, classic tried and true tx is peginterferon and riba, then along comes a third rx which does what? boosts the original two inf and riba? Softens the sx's? Wouldn't everyone be on a triple tx?
I'm guessing from what all I've read here and on the net that the reason for all these studies is to find a softer gentler way to kick HCV's ass and get it to the market as fast as you can so your company wins!
